Assistant Stylist

Job Summary The Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. This temporary role prepares talent for a full stylist position by providing on‑site mentorship from an Elite or Master Stylist during the first three months and by beginning independent service during months four to six. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performance Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding retail and service sales goals, guest loyalty, and retail shrink targets set by Ulta Beauty. Support the mentor Stylist in achieving sales and productivity goals for hair services and product sales by providing add‑on recommendations, performing shampoo and treatment processes, blowouts, styling, global and retouch color applications, assisting with foils, cleaning and sanitation tasks, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations. After month three, perform hair services including design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, brow services, and ear piercing (where applicable). Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience. Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives that deliver an unrivaled guest experience. Stay informed about new industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits. Maintain prompt, regular attendance. People Develop guest relationships through consultations and suitable retail and service recommendations. Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, in a timely and efficient manner under the mentorship of another stylist. Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total‑store, well‑rounded guest experience. Build professional peer and brand partner relationships that foster a shared interest in delivering exceptional guest service. Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app. Process Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards. Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; ensure compliance with state board guidelines. Follow established service protocols to deliver a consistent and exceptional guest experience. Utilize booking and client systems to schedule guests for return services and events. Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to maintain guest readiness. Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any additional assigned area. Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development. Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code. Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices. Execute other operational tasks as directed. Job Qualifications Education Cosmetology license. Skills Basic understanding of the latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, brow services, and ear piercing services (where applicable) and/or an aptitude to develop skills in all service categories. Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals needed for technical work. Basic ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products. Developed communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele. Special Position Requirements Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Working Conditions Frequent mobility during shift. Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting. Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs. during shift. Ability to stand for long periods of time during shift. Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift. Frequent use of a computer, telephonic devices, and related office and cosmetology supplies. Compensation and Benefits Pay range: $15.00 – $21.70 per hour. Exact pay considered based on education, qualifications, experience, level, shift, location, and business needs.
