$19.94 - $21.55 per hour

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR

Date Available: Commencing with the 2026-2027 school year. Official start date is August 25, 2026

Salary and Benefits: In accordance with the Joel Barlow High School Support Staff collective bargaining unit agreement. Salary range: $19.94/hour to $21.55/hour.


Hours: Monday-Friday, 6.5 hours per day; 181-day school year


Qualifications:

  • Must have two years of college credit; OR Associates Degree or higher; OR must provide evidence of having passed the State Board of Education adopted paraprofessional assessment
  • Previous experience working with adolescents in a school setting a plus
  • Must be flexible, creative, have a good sense of humor, and demonstrate strong organizational skills
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates program participation for identified student(s) and supports special education teams, regular classroom programs and school as a whole.
  • Attends all activities with student(s) as assigned, including field trips, assemblies and other portions of the school program.
  • Encourages, cues, monitors and intervenes as necessary to establish and maintain appropriate student interaction in the classroom.
  • Implements behavior support programs under the supervision of the School Psychologist and BCBA
  • Adapts materials under the supervision of instructional staff.
  • Provides individual support and enrichment activities as needed under the direction of a teacher.
  • Facilitates objectives and strategies introduced by special education and related services staff into content-area classrooms.
  • Serves as liaison between general education teachers and the special education Case Managers, reporting progress or concerns from the general education classroom.
  • Meets with regular classroom teachers and special education teachers on a regularly scheduled basis to coordinate efforts and program objectives.
  • Supervise independent or small group work, homework organization and other academic tasks as requested by the special education teacher.
  • Participates in in-service workshops and on-going training regarding student's needs.
  • Maintains current working knowledge of students' IEP
  • Encourages independence in students as appropriate.
