Medical Assistant – Certified Non-Permanent Project Position Stafford Creek Corrections Center, Aberdeen, WA. Hourly Salary: $26.62–$35.63 Monthly Salary: $4,632.00–$6,200.00 Schedule: 08:00 AM – 04:30 PM Monday–Friday The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Medical Assistant – Certified (MA-C) for the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, WA. The Medical Assistant performs all duties under the supervision of the healthcare provider in a safe and effective manner and within the scope of their practice as defined by state law and administrative code, RCW 18.360.050 Authorized Duties of the Medical Assistant – Certified, so that patient care provided is safe, effective, efficient and clinically appropriate. The Medical Assistant uses tools, techniques, physical and cognitive skills and abilities to perform tasks as delegated by a healthcare provider. Responsibilities Assist in providing patient care under the general supervision of the licensed practitioner or lead RN, including routine medical records duties, administrative support, and other clinical duties to support the medical department. Attend briefing from off-going staff on shift for pertinent clinical information and brief incoming staff before departing. Monitor patient flow in the outpatient clinic to assure timeliness of care and efficient clinical operations. Prepare patients for, and assist with, routine and specialty examinations, procedures and treatments. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas, including cleaning equipment, preparing instruments, supplies, medical records, etc. to expedite patient flow and support clinicians. Work collaboratively with Patient Services Representatives to ensure patient appointment scheduling, rescheduling, check‑in, and no‑show documentation. Maintain immunization records. Provide assistance in all direct delivery of patient care by the clinician, whether on site or via telehealth, including: Vital signs Visual acuity Audiometry exams Foot exams Splinting Ear irrigations Injections/vaccinations Basic laboratory functions (venipuncture, CLIA‑waived laboratory testing), collecting, processing and transporting specimens Screen and follow up on lab results as directed by the licensed practitioner Electrocardiography Respiratory diagnostic tests (pulmonary function/peak flow/incentive spirometer) Observe, document in the medical record, and report to the clinician, which could include but not limited to: Past medical history, family history, and relevant data Current health status (physical and emotional) Allergies, prescription/OTC medications and pharmacy information Situation of patient, family, groups, and/or communities by interview, observation, and inspection Facilitate telehealth encounters: Prepare the telehealth patient room including equipment, training, education, access and establish the online video conferencing connection. Facilitate telehealth appointments in the clinic or other location to meet the needs of the patient and clinical team. Provide technical support for telehealth services. Confirm schedule and coordinate with patients, providers, and support staff. Provide hands‑on assistance to the provider and patient as part of the encounter. Serve as a liaison and coordinate information between providers, patients and other key personnel. Initiate any indicated follow‑up services based upon findings of providers and communicate needs for follow‑up to the patient. Document the patient encounter including all clinical observations, information and education. Recognize and report abnormal vital signs and labs: Escalate clinical concerns to the provider or appropriate clinician. Carry out licensed practitioners’ written, verbal, and telephone orders in a timely manner. Observe and report patient’s signs or symptoms following procedures; recognize and report emergent/urgent problems or symptomology of common medical illness to the licensed practitioner or RN. Respond to emergencies within the facility by providing emergency medical care, including CPR and basic life support in a timely, competent manner. Medical Records Documentation Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings and actions taken. Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI). Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and via computer or other electronic media with other healthcare personnel, custody, and other institutional personnel. Administrative Support Be in attendance, capable, and competent to practice as assigned. Report for and perform work as scheduled so that staff safety and patient care is not compromised. Required Qualifications Initial and unblemished/unrestricted licensure in the State of Washington as a Certified Medical Assistant. Experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting. Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support and Basic First Aid. Ability to work competently in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to learn job‑specific DOC programs needed to perform work assignments. Additional Requirements Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. Ability to adjust work schedule to meet organizational needs. Maintain professional work relationships with staff, the public, and other stakeholders. Ability to work with diverse staff. Prioritize and complete tasks in accordance with timelines and expectations. Ability to research, accumulate, organize, and communicate technical information orally, in writing, in person, and using technologies such as telephone, electronic mail, and computer equipment. Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced, detail‑oriented environment. Ability to deescalate and listen to emotional/upset patients. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Read, understand, and apply policies and procedures. Desired/Preferred Qualifications Completion of a Medical Assistant – Certified program accredited by the American Association of Medical Assistants or the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA). IV Certification/Phlebotomy. Familiarity with both front and back office operations in an outpatient clinic setting. Experience actively participating in the quality improvement process for any business, including brainstorming, proposing improvement plans, or measuring success.
