Student Care and Accountability Coordinator

Student Care and Accountability Coordinator The Commonwealth of Virginia encourages individuals with disabilities to apply through the Commonwealth's Alternative Hiring Process (AHP). For more information, see Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks a Student Care and Accountability Coordinator to provide comprehensive support for student behavior, conduct, and well‑being. The Coordinator serves as a hearing officer, adjudicates student conduct cases, co‑leads the Student Conduct Hearing Board, and actively supports the College’s Care Team. Responsibilities Manage the college’s non‑academic student conduct process and coordinate individual and organizational conduct cases. Implement a comprehensive educational approach to help students and staff understand rights and responsibilities. Develop, expand, and deliver educational programming on conflict resolution, restorative practices, and student skill‑building. Employ equity‑minded best practices in student conduct and conflict education case‑management. Manage Maxient workflows and triage student conduct complaints and concerns. Lead campus‑wide marketing, programming, and training initiatives related to student conduct and conflict education. Serve as hearing officer and adjudicate student conduct cases in accordance with college policies. Co‑lead the Student Conduct Hearing Board. Serve as a designated independent, neutral, and confidential resource for conflict management and resolution through informal methods such as consultation, negotiation, and mediation. Support the cultivation of a safe, inclusive, fair, and caring educational community that promotes learning and personal development. Act as a responsible employee (mandatory crime reporter) and as a Deputy Title IX Coordinator – Title VI. Participate as a Threat Assessment team member and Campus Security Authority. Perform occasional alternate work schedules, including weekends, as needed. Qualifications Multiple years of experience in a student conduct, care, accountability center, educational administration, or related area. Experience managing staff and overseeing operations. Commitment to the community college mission, teaching and learning, high academic standards, and student success. Knowledge and experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications. Strong ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Student development theory and its practical application. Current trends and literature in case management (preferred). Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, procedures, and student affairs best practices. Knowledge of student conduct administration, crisis response, and non‑clinical case management. Knowledge of statutory and regulatory compliance (Clery Act, FERPA, Title IX, Title VI, VAWA, Drug‑Free Schools and Communities Act, Stop Campus Hazing Act). Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage diverse stakeholders and produce clear reports. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships and foster collaboration. Advanced critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills; ability to assess complex situations and make timely, sound decisions. Expertise in conflict resolution, mediation, and crisis de‑escalation. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous improvement. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast‑paced environments. Skill in monitoring and evaluating programs, identifying gaps, and implementing improvements. Strong interviewing and investigative skills with systematic information gathering and documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and experience with secure databases and student information systems. Ability to use standard office equipment and case‑management systems to support operations. Commitment to confidentiality and discretion while handling sensitive information. Ability to develop and facilitate trainings, presentations, and educational programs for diverse audiences. Willingness and ability to travel and work across multiple campus locations as needed. Additional Considerations Experience participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and policies. Experience working in an office setting. Experience complying with Clery Act, Title IX, and/or Drug‑Free Schools and Communities Act is highly preferred. Prior experience serving on a behavior intervention team is preferred. Familiarity with a student conduct platform and higher‑education systems such as Maxient, Symplicity Advocate, Navigate, Datatel Colleague, SIS, or Google Workspace.
