Nocturnist Physician – Hospital MedicineThe Nocturnist Physician provides overnight inpatient medical care for hospitalized adult patients. This role focuses on admissions, cross-coverage, and management of acute medical issues during nighttime hours. The nocturnist works collaboratively with nursing staff, consulting services, and daytime hospitalist teams to ensure continuity of care and patient safety.Key responsibilities include:Provide overnight medical coverage for adult inpatientsPerform new patient admissions, including histories, physical examinations, and treatment plansManage acute changes in patient condition and respond to medical emergenciesProvide cross-coverage for existing inpatients, including order management and clinical reassessmentCollaborate with on-call specialists and ancillary services as neededParticipate in rapid response and code situations as requiredCommunicate pertinent patient information to daytime providers during handoffsMaintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health recordSupport quality improvement initiatives and patient safety standardsSchedule and coverage details include:Night shift coverage in an inpatient hospital settingSchedule may include block nights or rotating coverageWeekend and holiday coverage may be requiredThe patient population includes:Adult inpatient medical patientsBroad range of acute and chronic medical conditionsVariable acuity depending on facility resourcesQualifications required are:MD or DO from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Internal Medicine or Family Medicine residencyBoard certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family MedicineEligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the practicing stateDEA registration or eligibilityACLS certification (or ability to obtain)Skills and competencies include:Strong independent clinical decision-making skillsAbility to manage urgent and high-acuity conditions overnightExcellent communication and handoff skillsAbility to work efficiently in a fast-paced inpatient environmentCommitment to patient-centered, evidence-based careWork environment includes:Acute care hospital settingTeam-based, multidisciplinary care modelHigh level of autonomy with appropriate specialty support
