The Pharmacy Systems Specialist will assist the Pharmacy Informatics Team with new implementations, updates, and support of pharmacy technologies. This role will assist the Pharmacy Informatics Team with new implementations, updates, and support of pharmacy technologies including but not limited to electronic health records (e.g. EPIC); automated dispensing cabinets (e.g. Pyxis); smart infusion pumps (e.g. Baxter Spectrum, BD Alaris); IV workflow management tools (e.g. Dose Edge, Dispense Prep); automated IV compounding equipment; inventory management software; diversion prevention tools; and barcode and labeling software. Other software programs may be added on as necessary. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures. Required Job Qualifications:
• Associate with 2 year of experience in Computer Science or at least 4 years of computer systems experience
• Licensed Technician in Illinois (or eligibility to be licensed in Illinois)
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB)
• Three years of hospital pharmacy experience
• Epic Willow Certification or eligible within 12 months of hire
• Extensive knowledge of Excel and Access databases
• Expertise in pharmacy automation including at least three of the following: electronic health records, automated dispensing cabinets, smart infusion pumps, automated IV compounding equipment, IV workflow management tools, inventory management software, diversion prevention tools, and barcode and labeling software.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Understanding of medication billing and charging.
• Prior experience navigating, troubleshooting, and resolving interface issues
• Ability to mentor and teach residents and students.
• Ability to demonstrate Rush ICARE values.
• Accountable for actions, progress and development.
• Attention to detail to provide high quality care and accurate medication preparation.
• Must be proactive in analyzing and resolving problems with hardware and software.
• Has an understanding of various interfaces and can work independently to troubleshoot.
• Demonstrates adaptability, manages work, communication, professional knowledge, technical skills, and continuous learning and exhibits a passion for the Rush Mission, Vision and Values.
• Good organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
• Proficiency with all Microsoft office tools.
• Excellent typing and computer skills
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with an emphasis on customer service skills. Physical Demands:
• May be exposed to certain hazardous materials, including but not limited to chemotherapeutic agents.
Responsibilities:
• Supports and coordinates department IT projects and implementations.
• Responsible for overseeing and managing reports from each system as requested by members of the Pharmacy Leadership Team.
• Assists in maintaining accurate data within pharmacy software and IT systems to facilitate reporting and optimization of Pharmacy workflows, in coordination with the pharmacy technology group.
• Acts as a liaison between the Inpatient Pharmacy Department and Information Services teams to facilitate build, installation, and configuration of new solutions, and customizes them for the department.
• Devises and implements ways to add new functionality to existing computer systems.
• Conducts testing to ensure that that the systems work as expected.
• Utilizes reporting tools provided by each system and designs/generates reports as requested.
• Provides on-call pharmacy technology support, in conjunction with other individuals.
• Works in compliance with departmental and medical center policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with individuals internally and externally with Rush ICARE values and professionalism to complete projects and tasks.
