Instructor, Pre-Clinical/Clinical Nursing

This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students. This position manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities, as required, and carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. This position requires the knowledge of the principles and techniques of nursing care and must be skilled in the performance of nursing procedures and knowledge. This position usually performs duties within a team or departmental setting but at times work independently in a unique teaching specialty. This position may be assigned to clinical affiliating agencies where greater than average monitoring is required to diminish the chance of accidental injury to students. This position requires graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license or multi-state licensure with privilege to practice in Virginia. This position performs work under the general supervision from the coordinator of the Practical Nursing program. Essential Responsibilities Specific to this Job Assesses continually student achievement and maintains appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes Plans and implements appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate kind and level of materials, provides appropriate learning experiences, manages allotted learning time to maximize student achievement, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning Manages the behavior of learners in an instructional setting to ensure environment is conducive to the learning process and assists and participates in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site Coordinates instructional activities with other professional staff, both school and non school-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities Works in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or in field or may make off-school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or site instructors Participates in in-service and professional development activities and staff meetings, as required or assigned Fosters partnerships and ensures continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress Communicates continually with students on instructional expectations to keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations Assigns work to and supervises instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers Serves at two or more schools on a regular basis as itinerant Supports or participates in schoolwide student activities and social events Monitors student behavior in non-instructional area and intervenes to control and modify disruptive behavior, reports to appropriate administrator, as assigned or required Collaborates with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians, etc.) to carry out schoolwide instructional or related activities as needed Attends education functions to upgrade and maintain nursing techniques and practice Promotes the spirit, profession, and philosophy of nursing Promotes evidence-based practice within the nursing curriculum Maintains current professional/nursing unencumbered Virginia license Supports school and affiliating agencies functions as applicable Utilizes the American Nurse Association Code of Ethics as a guide for professional practice Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors Knowledge of the Instructional Process Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty(ies) to which assigned Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development Knowledge of education strategies for adult learners Knowledge of Prince William County Curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization Knowledge of regulation for Nursing Education Programs through the Virginia Board of Nursing 18VAC 90-27-10 et seq. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills If teaching in career and technical education- nursing education, must possess a current unencumbered Virginia nursing license or a multi-state licensure with privilege to practice nursing in the state of Virginia Professional competence shall be maintained through activities such as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing. Qualifications Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent collegiate professional; postgraduate professional or appropriate Virginia vocation certificate/license with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s); must be eligible for the Virginia State Certification Program. Minimum of three years' experience in nursing. Collegiate professional, postgraduate professional, or appropriate vocational certificate/license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s); must be eligible for the Virginia State Certification Program.
