Location Various,Dayton, OH, 45377,United States Job Category Computational Sciences Employee Type FT Exempt Required Degree Masters Location: Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio Clearance Required: Public Trust Anticipated Salary Mid-Point: $130,000- negotiable based on experience Knowesis is currently seeking an exceptional Epidemiologist to join our team and provide invaluable support to the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Public Health Research Directorate (USAFSAM/PHR), 711th Human Performance Wing (711 HPW). This team delivers human performance research and public health surveillance capabilities to the Air Force, with this position focused on reproductive health outcomes research for the missile community. To be eligible for this position, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship without the need for sponsorship, both now and in the future. Applicants without proof of U.S. Citizenship will not be considered due to the position's security requirements. The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Assess and monitor the health status of the USAF population by analyzing surveillance databases, including the Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE) and Disease Reporting Surveillance internet (DRSi), and provide feedback, support, quality control, and administrative maintenance associated with these data systems. Assist in designing written communication for internal and external purposes. Assist and advise military team leaders on outbreak investigations and coordinate novel public health research. Assist in granting access to surveillance systems and applications to authorized users and ensure data maintained within these systems are current, accurate, and edit information as needed or requested by customers. Assist in data collection in support of USAFSAM/PHR's mission, including oversight of health surveillance data. Serve as the initial point of contact for users and customers requesting data and data-related support services (e.g., data analysis, data interpretation, report generation) and provide input on data systems design, upgrading, and integration. Assist in creating and maintaining professional relationships with appropriate data creators and Information Technology (IT) support staff to ensure data quality, completeness, and integrity. Represent USAFSAM/PHR during collaborative efforts to increase data sharing capabilities and surveillance partnerships with base-level users and other principal stakeholders in the USAFSAM/PHR surveillance systems. Establish the relationship of available data to existing data sets, map the data between data elements and coding for these specific data elements, and create a comprehensive data dictionary. Assist with public health/epidemiology and epidemiological study design and execution. Provide assistance to USAFSAM/PHR data users in producing timely and accurate routine and ad hoc reports, special study methods, Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposals, and surveillance protocols. Assist in prioritizing research areas and work with base-level, Major Command (MAJCOM), and Air Force-level personnel in determining which health issues among Air Force members require future study. Assist in creating research protocols for prioritized research areas and submit these protocols to the appropriate IRB. Coordinate with appropriate personnel at identified research location sites and generate summary reports of findings for base-level personnel, USAFSAM/PHR, MAJCOMs, Air Force Medical Command (AFMEDCOM), and the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Assist in designing and maintaining data management protocols and policies for USAFSAM/PHR surveillance reporting and special projects. Identify and recommend improvements for existing data collection/management and design requirements/protocols for new systems. Provide conference support by actively participating in professional conferences, preparing posters and presentations to be presented by USAFSAM/PHR personnel, and publishing peer-reviewed manuscripts. Brief research findings at appropriate meetings or forums as determined by the Government. Provide technical automation support for all versions of Microsoft (MS) Windows, Microsoft Office (e.g., MS Access, MS Excel, MS Publisher), and Adobe. Assist in building training materials in the fields of public health and epidemiology and provide training courses and workshops focused on epidemiology or surveillance-related subjects at the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine. Provide training to USAFSAM/PHR personnel on all data products created and educate USAFSAM students and others as appropriate. Provide advisory and assistance support to USAFSAM/PHR on outbreak investigations, library research, and special data requests. No travel is anticipated for this position. Required Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or other similar master's level degree as approved by USAFSAM/PHR, with strong knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and public health. Must be current in Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) training or be able to complete HIPAA training within one month of employment to access and process identified medical data. Must be current in Scientific and Technical Information (STINFO) training and Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) or be able to complete training within one month of employment. Expertise in utilizing health surveillance systems and ability to learn and utilize the following: Disease Reporting Surveillance internet (DRSi), Military Health Systems Genesis (MHS Genesis), Electronic Surveillance System for the Early Notification of Community-based Epidemics (ESSENCE), Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Hearing Conservation (DOEHRS-HC), the Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record (ILER), Aeromedical Services Information Management System (ASIMS), and Envision. Expertise and capability to utilize Microsoft Office, SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, and at least working knowledge of R and/or STATA. Advanced analytical skills in public health/epidemiology and epidemiological study design and execution, including experience with descriptive statistics, measures of association, determining statistical significance, and modeling of data. Expertise and capability to create research protocols for prioritized research areas and submit these protocols to the appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB). Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with USAFSAM/PHR data repositories. Prior experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Air Force public health or occupational and environmental health programs. Experience preparing and presenting peer-reviewed research at professional conferences.
