CHIEF Administrative Officer

Description The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) reports to the Chief Executive of Alaska and provides strategic leadership, direction, planning, and operational oversight for the ministry’s medical center and long‑term care facility (as applicable). The CAO is a key leader for the ministry and the community and a member of the Alaska service area executive team. Essential Functions Establish strategic guidance and direction for the medical center and long‑term care facility. Lead day‑to‑day operations to ensure quality, safety, caregiver engagement, and patient experience. Monitor, assess, and enhance operational processes to achieve goals and metrics. Advance resource management, quality of care, safety, and stakeholder satisfaction. Oversee operating budget performance, staff productivity, contracts, and accountability. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including caregivers, physicians, other ministries, and community advisory boards. Engage actively as a community leader and liaison with city leadership. Administer and steward the Management and Operating Agreement for ministry operations. Provide leadership to the community advisory board. Develop an integrated delivery system vision and strategic plan, updating it as required. Manage physician integration, growth plans, and community health programs. Drive high standards for personnel, finance, quality, and patient experience. Lead regulatory compliance and accreditation engagements with state and federal agencies. Build and sustain strategic business alliances with community leaders and providers. Drive process innovation, continuously improving efficiency and effectiveness. Translate strategic priorities into operational reality, ensuring measurable results. Maintain high employee morale and positive relationships across staff and management. Facilitate talent acquisition, development, and retention. Provide coaching, feedback, and development guidance to staff. Communicate effectively, inspiring the organization toward shared goals. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Hospital Administration, Business Administration, or related field. Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare‑related field (preferred). Minimum 5 years of senior level leadership experience in a health care delivery organization. Minimum 2 years working within integrated health systems with successful physician relations. Minimum 1 year managing day‑to‑day financial operations of multiple location delivery systems. Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible leadership positions in health care. At least 5 years of health care leadership in a rural setting (preferred). Alaska Nursing Home Administrator License or relevant credential (preferred). Comfortable working in a Catholic sponsored organization. Broad knowledge of health care trends and implications. Proven record in strategic planning and organizational growth. Ability to lead complex organizations through transition. Strong problem‑solving, change‑management, and communication skills. Ability to build diverse teams, maintain morale, and foster continuous improvement. Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Collaboration and influence across the organization and community.
