Job Objective Performs highly complex marketing, informational, and educational work. The work involves capturing and preparing video and photography to develop, create, and produce content and materials for release to various communications media (news, print, digital, and/or social) and for use by the agency, the public, and partner organizations. This position works closely with the Division Director and other team members to create print and digital media that promote THC programs, divisions, and initiatives, while providing graphic design support and maintaining THC photo resources and archives. This position reports to the Marketing and Public Relations (MPR) Division Director. Essential Duties Plan, produce, and direct video content creation for marketing, educational, and other informational purposes, including short‑form social media video, editorial video content, and live‑event coverage. Provide videography, photography, and written content for print and digital publications supporting THC initiatives and programs. Collaborate with MPR leadership to develop effective strategic uses for video and multimedia content across platforms. Create captivating written, video, and graphic content for digital platforms, including the THC website, social media channels, e‑newsletters, and print publications. Conduct interviews with stakeholders, including historians, preservation partners, site staff, and subject matter experts, for use in written and visual content. Develop strategies to position the agency as the premier source for historic preservation information in Texas. Promote the agency’s strategic goals, including heritage tourism, historic preservation, and history education initiatives. Identify opportunities to create written video content that promotes agency programs, events, and special initiatives. Collaborate with team members on concepts for the monthly social media calendar and other multimedia projects and campaigns. Define key performance indicators and implement measurements, analytics, and reporting methods to gauge success of creative content. Regularly analyze performance of digital content using analytics tools and provide insights and recommendations for improving engagement and reach. Assist with organizing and maintaining a digital asset library, including photos, videos, graphics, and other multimedia content. Provide audiovisual technical support for virtual and in‑person agency events, public meetings, and special programs. Proofread for proper use of grammar and AP Style and work in close coordination with agency contacts to ensure accuracy. Adhere to established work schedule with regular attendance. Follow all THC safety guidelines, procedures, and ethics requirements. Non‑essential Duties Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Applicants selected for an interview will be required to submit writing and video samples. Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a degree in Film/Video Production, Radio‑Television‑Film, Digital Media, Cinematography, Broadcast Journalism, Marketing, Communications, or a related field. (Two years of work experience related to the essential duties may substitute for one year of college.) Minimum four years of work experience in videography/editing, broadcast news, multimedia journalism, photography, or a related field. Portfolio of professional work is required to qualify for interview. Minimum two years of work experience in video production, direction, scripting, and editing. Proficiency in professional video editing software, e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro. Experience and proficiency with cameras, including mirrorless and ENG styles. Experience and proficiency with A/V equipment, including lighting and audio. Experience writing for public‑facing digital platforms or print publications. Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and ability to drive a state vehicle. Required to travel up to 30% of the work period. Preferred Experience supervising staff by effectively delegating tasks, assigning reasonable timelines, coaching team members on quality, holding team members accountable for work production, and rewarding good performance. Experience using social media on behalf of an employer or client. Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, and related tools. Experience in newswriting, news or sports photography, or animation. Experience using graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or similar. Experience with setup and management of video streams or videoconferences for live events (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom). Familiarity with Texas history, heritage tourism, or historic preservation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Exemplary writing, editing and supervisory skills. Strong knowledge of AP Style and its application across digital and print platforms. Knowledge of public relations and all aspects of digital media. Knowledge of photography, videography, and Adobe Creative Cloud software. Excellent verbal and written communication, human relations, and organizational skills. Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data to improve content performance. Effective critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Skill in providing customer service excellence to both internal and external customers. Skill in operating a personal computer with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software. Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to a general audience and respond to comments and inquiries appropriately. Ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and functions simultaneously while adhering to deadlines. Ability to research, prepare information and compose copy/materials related to the goals and priorities of the agency. Ability to analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend effective solutions. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment requiring self‑motivation and cooperative decision‑making, and to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Ability to adapt successfully and quickly to change and deliver quality results in a timely manner. Ability to plan, organize, and work independently as well as within a team environment. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, work under deadlines, and operate standard office equipment and computer software. Must be able to travel to historic sites, event venues, and outdoor locations for photography or videography assignments, including in varying weather conditions. Registration, Certification, or Licensure Must have or obtain a valid Driver's License and Defensive Driving Course to be able to operate state vehicles. Environment/Physical Conditions Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve walking, standing, pulling and pushing, kneeling, stooping and bending, performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination, and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer, and may require working extended hours and some evenings, weekends and overnight, as needed. Involves safely operating a state vehicle and driving for long distances and traveling by airplane.
