Job Summary The Emergency Department Technician II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician III performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Preferred experience as Patient Care Tech, nursing assistant, or nursing student with completion of one Adult Medical/Surgical course with hands‑on clinical experience. Minimum 1 year of patient care experience in a health care environment or certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Onboarding and Training Within six months of hire date, the employee must successfully pass online course modules, phlebotomy training and skill validation for basic and advanced skills, and EKG training. Achieving an 80% passing rate on each test in two attempts is required; otherwise separation from employment ensues. Successful completion of the Emergency Department Technician unit specific training and competency demonstration is required within the first six months of employment or the employee will be separated from employment. Work Conditions Position may require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends. Failure to abide by MUHA policies is subject to disciplinary action, including termination. Positions within the Emergency Department require a copy of academic degree or transcript. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations BLS certification with Red Cross or AHA. Physical Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, working from elevated areas, working in confined spaces, kneeling positions, bending at the waist, squatting, repetitive hand/wrist/elbow movements, reaching in all directions, good finger dexterity, use both legs and both hands/arms, lift and carry 15 lbs unassisted, lift objects 15 lbs from 0-36 inches, lift from 36 inches to overhead 15 lbs, maintain 20/40 vision (corrected), see and recognize objects at hand or distance, discriminate between colors, maintain hearing acuity (corrected), gross motor and fine motor movements, work in latex safe environment, tactile and olfactory sensory functions, qualify physically for respirator use.
