Job Title: MedSurg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The facility is a licensed bed acute care center. It serves as a Trauma Level III center. It is a teaching hospital recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The nursing unit has 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients. The patient population includes those with chest pain, syncope, and angina. The RN to patient ratio is 1:5, and the CNA to patient ratio is 1:10. Required skills include general Med/Tele skill sets, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management. Experience with medication management related to cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids is necessary. Support within the department includes a supervisor and a charge RN who may or may not have patients. A resource RN will assist with admissions and discharges. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and hospitalists are also present. Phlebotomy is a collaborative effort between RNs and an IV team. Technology used includes an EMR system and specific IV pumps and medication dispensing systems. Travel nurses may be required to float to other units based on patient care needs. Floating may occur mid-shift, and travelers will be paid for travel time if moving between facilities. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation and holiday expectations, including working 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. The unit fosters a great team environment and encourages team-building activities.
