Network Engineer (Palo Alto Firewall)

Salary: $120,000 - 128,000 per year Requirements:

• We need a bachelors degree in IT or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, plus 5 years of network engineering experience.
• We require an active Secret clearance or equivalent.
• We require hands-on experience with the Palo Alto firewall platform.
• We look for strong technical depth in network engineering, including firewall administration, service desk setup, and multicasting.
• We prefer experience managing next-generation firewalls such as Palo Alto and Cisco Firepower/ASA, including policy updates and object/group administration.
• We value knowledge of firewall rule design best practices, including least privilege, segmentation, documentation, and periodic access/rule reviews.
• We prefer proficiency with firewall logging, monitoring, and traffic analysis tools such as syslog and NetFlow.
• We look for familiarity with firewall hardening, patching, configuration compliance, formal change control, and audit support.
• We seek strong experience with Palo Alto and Cisco products and tools.
• We value strong experience with SolarWinds and its modules.
• We prefer familiarity with tools such as Wireshark and Dameware.
• We need strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• We strongly prefer CCNP Security certification.
• Additional preferred certifications and training include MCSE, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Administrator Expert, Microsoft certifications and Applied Skills, CCSP, CCNA, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+, Azure Database Administrator Associate, and Microsoft 365 Fundamentals.

• We assist with the design, implementation, and upkeep of network infrastructure.
• We maintain documentation for network architecture and configurations.
• We generate network configuration reports as needed.
• We monitor network performance and proactively troubleshoot issues.
• We manage firewall platforms such as Palo Alto and Cisco ASA/Firepower, including rule base administration, NAT updates, and object/group management.
• We implement and support firewall change management, including risk and impact reviews, maintenance windows, validation testing, and rollback planning.
• We monitor firewall health, throughput, and logs, investigate alerts, and coordinate incident response.
• We ensure firewall configurations align with security baselines and compliance needs, and we support access reviews, audits, and vulnerability remediation.
• We support firewall security services such as IPS/IDS, URL filtering, and application control, and tune policies to reduce false positives while preserving protection.
• We assist with system upgrades and patching.
• We provide escalated technical support and incident resolution, including field operations support.
• We help plan and execute disaster recovery and backup strategies.
• We ensure the network remains robust, secure, scalable, and optimized for business operations.
• We assist in developing standard operating procedures and related processes.
