Job Description UW Medicine UW Medical Center-Montlake - 7NE ONCOLOGY has outstanding opportunities for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Patient Care Technician (PCT) (Job Profile) position. Working Job Title: Nursing Mobility Assistant SCHEDULE: 60% FTE - 24 hours per week Day shift Set schedule: Mon-Wed The Nursing Mobility Assistant provide direct and indirect care to patients and their families under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse. Typical duties include assisting patients with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe environment of care, preparing patients for surgery, close observation of confused patients, transportation, maintenance of equipment and supplies, and clerical tasks. PCTs may serve in several roles, including, Constant Observer and General Unit PCT. Position Highlights for Nursing Mobility Assistants: Direct patient care including exercise, mobilizing, ambulating or positioning as directed by nursing and/or therapy staff Setting up mobility events for patients Be UW Medical Center’s expert in mobilizing patients Primary Job Responsibilities for Nursing Mobility Assistants: Organization and prioritization of mobility tasks for designated oncology patient population Maintenance/set up of mobility equipment and resource for nursing staff on this equipment Collaborate with nursing and therapy staff to maximize mobility events and enhance progress toward the improvement of patient outcomes PCT Job Responsibilities: Accurately performs all duties that support patient and family care, as assigned by the RN. Delivers bedside care required for a group of assigned patients. Recognizes and follows established standards in clinical emergencies. Sets up equipment and assists in preparing patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and assists physician or RN with procedures. Performs therapeutic patient care techniques as described on the PCT checklist. Maintains a clean, neat and safe environment in the patient room and on the nursing unit. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to observe, document, and report data related to changes in patient status and/or symptoms per hospital and unit standards. Observes and reports the results of interventions to the RN. Makes observations of clients' safety and comfort needs and responds appropriately. On admission, collects specific data as directed, orients patient to unit. Demonstrates a patient and family centered approach to patient care at all times by introducing themselves, stating their role, and maintaining patient's privacy. Responds to patient requests for assistance in a timely and appropriate manner. Answers patient call lights; determines nature of problem; respond within scope and/or obtain appropriate resources. Documentation is complete, accurate, and meets the standards identified by the dept. Demonstrates the ability to document in the medical record in an efficient and timely manner. Demonstrates the ability to be self-directed and make efficient use of time to meet the needs of patient and families as well as unit functions. Reports observations to the nurse to assist in the planning and development of approaches to meet the needs of patients and families. Organizes work assignment to meet patient's needs and unit organization and works with the RN to set priorities for care. Maintains equipment and stocks supplies. Demonstrates knowledge using patient care equipment safely. Performs safety checks as assigned. May provide focused equipment support for specialty services, including overseeing inventory of designated equipment, assuring that equipment room is consistently in order and equipment/supplies safely stored; may be responsible for inventory log and review with charge nurse on an ongoing manner. Orients new PCTs, staff and volunteers as needed. Assists with development and review of unit specific Orientation Checklists and recommends updates on an as needed basis. Consults with Charge Nurse/Manager regarding continuing education topics specific to the PCT role. Continues to mentor new PCTs, as assigned. Assists in the health teaching of safety for patients by reinforcing teaching related to preventative and therapeutic measures. Communicates observation of health and learning needs and patient requests for information to the RN. Documents health teaching on the appropriate record. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility for own actions and decisions in the performance of job duties. Demonstrates flexibility and stress tolerance in patient assignments by maintaining excellent interpersonal communication skills. Willingly participates in various unit committees and unit in-service programs. Identifies self learning needs and collaborates with the manager to schedule education. Takes accountability for personal growth. Demonstrates excellent communication skills verbally, in writing and in entering data into the electronic medical record. Able to function as effective member of the health care team by articulating concerns and resolving conflict in a professional manner. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Current, valid Certified Nursing Assistant Certification (NAC) with WA State (please indicate your NA-C credential number on your resume) High School graduation and six months experience involving direct patient care or customer service in a health care setting; Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
