Production Supervisor - Second Shift

The Second-Shift Production Supervisor is responsible for leading manufacturing operations within the trailer assembly department during the second shift. This position ensures products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to National Signal’s quality standards. This position provides hands-on leadership to second-shift production employees by planning workflow, coordinating resources, monitoring production schedules, and addressing operational issues. The supervisor is also responsible for ensuring an effective transition between shifts by communicating production status, priorities, quality concerns, equipment issues, and other relevant information. The Second-Shift Production Supervisor works closely with Planning, Engineering, Customer Service, Shipping and Receiving, and first-shift leadership to meet customer expectations while maintaining a safe, productive, and engaged workforce. Second-Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM Hourly Rate: $25.00–$32.00 per hour, depending on experience Job Duties: Production and Operations Lead daily second-shift operations within the trailer assembly department to achieve production, quality, safety, and delivery objectives. Plan, schedule, and coordinate production activities to meet customer delivery commitments. Review production priorities and outstanding work with first-shift leadership at the beginning of each shift. Communicate production results, unresolved issues, equipment concerns, and priorities to the appropriate leaders at the end of each shift. Monitor production schedules and adjust staffing, assignments, and priorities as business needs change. Ensure the efficient use of labor, equipment, materials, and other manufacturing resources. Track production metrics and implement corrective actions to improve performance. Identify bottlenecks and proactively resolve production issues to minimize downtime. Coordinate responses to equipment, material, staffing, and quality issues that occur during second-shift operations. Ensure all required production records, reports, and shift handoff documentation are completed accurately and on time. Remain available to work additional hours or alternate schedules when necessary to support production needs. Leadership and Team Development Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop second-shift production employees to maximize performance and engagement. Establish clear expectations and hold employees accountable for safety, attendance, quality, productivity, and workplace conduct. Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, coaching sessions, and disciplinary actions, as appropriate. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement. Support employee development through cross-training and skills advancement. Maintain employee morale through consistent communication, recognition, and visible leadership. Serve as the primary on-site leader for second-shift production employees and respond appropriately to employee, operational, and safety concerns. Quality Ensure all products meet National Signal quality standards, engineering requirements, and customer specifications. Promote quality at every stage of the manufacturing process. Ensure employees follow approved drawings, work instructions, inspection requirements, and manufacturing procedures. Address quality concerns promptly and coordinate containment and corrective action when necessary. Document and communicate quality issues to the appropriate departments and shift leadership. Safety Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA regulations. Conduct regular safety observations and reinforce safe work practices. Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment and follow established safety procedures. Ensure employees maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas through effective housekeeping practices. Respond to and investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and near misses that occur during the shift. Complete required incident documentation and promptly notify the appropriate company leaders. Implement corrective and preventive measures to reduce workplace hazards and prevent recurrence. Recommend and implement improvements to manufacturing processes, equipment, workflow, plant layout, and material handling. Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity, quality, safety, and efficiency. Participate in Kaizen events and other operational improvement projects. Encourage employees to identify improvement opportunities and contribute practical solutions. Monitor the effectiveness of implemented improvements and recommend additional actions when needed. Qualifications: Required High school diploma or GED required. Five (5) or more years of manufacturing leadership or production supervision experience. Experience supervising teams in a manufacturing or assembly environment. Strong leadership, coaching, and employee development skills. Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills.Fluent in English is a must. Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and production reporting systems. Ability to read and interpret production schedules, drawings, and work instructions. Preferred Experience in trailer, heavy equipment, metal fabrication, or industrial manufacturing. Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience. ERP/MRP system experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills are a plus. Physical Requirements Frequently walk throughout the manufacturing facility. Stand for extended periods. Occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Bend, kneel, climb stairs, and reach as necessary. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
