Position available for the 2026-2027 School Year Position Title: American Indian Studies Specialist/Indian Education Career Advisor Reports to: Indian Education Director (Lauren Rowley, Director) Evaluation: Annually Qualifications : Pass OSBI background check Job Goal: Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the district's established policies and procedures. Classification: Exempt Position Summary: Create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education following each pupil's ability; and establish good relationships with parents, staff members, and maintain a smooth relationship between the Native American community and the School District.
Job Specifications: An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability. Essential Duties:
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and essential subject matter specified in the school district's state law and administrative regulations and procedures.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Treat pupils with respect and dignity.
• Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils' progress and interpret the school program.
• Interacts with pupils, staff, and parents positively and professionally.
• Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
• Establish rapport with pupils and provide a pleasant, safe, and orderly climate conducive to learning.
• Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
• Supervise and monitor students during out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day (Indian Education field trips).
• American Indian College and Career Readiness teacher/advisor.
• Will meet with AISA Club for MS one time per week.
• Optional additional duties with stipend (Powwows, evening cultural activities, and fundraisers)
• Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required):
• Native American Preference must be exercised. Public Law 93-638, The Indian Self Determination and Education Act of 1975, now directs "Indian Preference to be used in hiring for all Title VI and Johnson O'Malley vacancies.
• Knowledge of Native American history and culture
• A bachelor's in education or a related field is required.
• American Indian Studies
• Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, and follow state and district guidelines.
