Diesel Truck Mechanic
This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance and complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on medium-duty trucks used in an aviation ground support environment. You will diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brake systems, hydraulic components, and electrical systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the fleet.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including identifying and resolving drivability issues and check engine light alerts.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain air brake systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Work on hydraulic systems, including understanding their function, diagnosing issues, and performing necessary repairs.
- Read and interpret schematics to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Perform electrical diagnostics on trucks, including identifying and repairing wiring issues and electrical faults.
- Conduct wiring diagnostics to locate and correct faults in electrical circuits and components.
- Identify and resolve check engine light and drivability issues using appropriate diagnostic tools and methods.
- Document work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, and parts used, in an accurate and timely manner.
- Follow all safety procedures and use provided personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing maintenance and repairs.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work orders and ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with facility standards and regulations.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with diesel engines.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience with hydraulic systems.
- Proven experience performing preventative maintenance on medium-duty trucks.
- Strong ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, including drivability and performance issues.
- Experience repairing and maintaining air brake systems.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
- Practical electrical experience, including diagnosing and repairing electrical issues on trucks.
- Proficiency in wiring diagnostics and troubleshooting electrical circuits.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an airport SIDA badge, including meeting all related security requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and commitment to performing high-quality, safe repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with ground support or similar heavy equipment is beneficial.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment for diesel engines and electrical systems.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, operational environment.
- Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with team members and other departments.
- Willingness to continually develop technical skills and stay current with evolving truck and diesel technologies.

Work Environment
This position follows a set schedule of Wednesday through Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. You will work in an aviation-related ground support facility focused on maintaining medium-duty diesel trucks and associated equipment. The environment involves hands-on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical work, using diagnostic tools, schematics, and standard shop equipment. All required personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, and safety procedures are emphasized. The role requires working in and around active operational areas, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and typical shop conditions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $56000.00 - $70000.00/yr.
