The Position

Contra Costa Health is the largest county department in Contra Costa County with over 4,700 employees. Our mission is to care for and improve the health of all people in Contra Costa with special attention to those who are most vulnerable to health problems. We provide services through nine operational areas: Behavioral Health, Contra Costa Health Plan, Emergency Medical Services, Environmental Health, Hazardous Materials, Health, Housing & Homeless Services, Public Health, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center & Health Centers and Detention Health.

The Contra Costa Health Department has a need to fill one (1) Full-Time Respiratory Care Practitioner II position within the Pulmonary Function Lab.

Respiratory Care Practitioner II is a journey-level position that requires experience providing respiratory care treatment to patients in an acute care hospital and ambulatory health centers. Employees in this class administer therapy and life support to patients while assisting in making patient assessments for the purpose of establishing individual respiratory care plans. They also clean, assemble, and transport respiratory equipment as requested. Respiratory Care Practitioner II may also operate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment as well as electrocardiograph machines on a relief basis and/or provide work direction to other staff.

What you will typically be responsible for:

• Assessing patients' respiratory conditions and developing appropriate care plans.
• Performing respiratory treatments and procedures such as oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation, and airway management.
• Monitoring patients' progress and adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
• Educating patients and their families on managing respiratory conditions and using respiratory equipment.
• Collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records.
• Coordinating care plans and adjusting treatments as necessary to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Performing cardiopulmonary diagnostics

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Possess and maintain a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the Respiratory Care Board of California. Certification: Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association, or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross; and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate.

Applicants are required to attach a copy of their license to their application.

Two (2) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (or Respiratory Therapist) in an acute care hospital.

RCPs assigned to the

setting must also possess and maintain a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider Certificate.

• Pulmonary Function Lab RCPs must possess and maintain a CPFT (Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist); or RPFT (Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist) Credential issued by the NBRC in addition to the above
• OSA/CPAP and/or Pulmonary/Bronch Clinic: Must possess and maintain certification or credential in one or more of the following: AE-C Asthma Educator; SDS Sleep Disorder Testing and Therapeutic Intervention Respiratory Care Specialist; Polysomnographic Technologist; One year documented experience working in a sleep disorders center or respiratory based outpatient clinic setting.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience in acute critical care or emergency respiratory care settings.
• Experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to take initiative and lead projects or teams when needed.
• Experience in mentoring or teaching students or junior staff members.
• Ability to develop and implement new ideas to improve patient care and department efficiency.

SELECTION PROCESS

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.
