COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Non-commissioned officer appointed by the Highland County Sheriff as a Communications Officer and is a classified civil servant (0. A. C. 123:1-5) to carry out the duties and policy of the Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher, and carry out the lawful duty or order of the Sheriff or appointed Supervisor.

JOB DUTIES

Performs duties of a dispatcher; Handles walk‑in complaints and telephone calls from the general public that relate to crime reporting, complaints, and providing general law enforcement information; Operates the 911 Emergency System handling emergency calls for Fire/EMS and/or Law Enforcement response; Operates Law Enforcement Radio, Power 911/CAD System, and LEADS equipment; Operates Auxiliary Aids and Service System for the hearing impaired; Monitors and documents daily Sheriff's Office's operations and radio traffic; Communicates with other agencies through the use of teletypes, as well as the radio communications system. Monitors the R. U. 0. K. System; Records information pertaining to security checks and vacation home watches and disseminates this information to the Patrol Division; Enters, validates, and removes warrant, C. P. 0. and T. P. 0 information into the LEADS System; Receives and forwards complaints to the Dog Warden Division; Manages traffic and offense report numbering system; Perform miscellaneous duties assigned by supervisors to facilitate operational efficiency of the department, and carries out the lawful duties of the Highland County Sheriff's Office. Knowledge of: Law Enforcement procedures and methods; State and local laws; Departmental policies and regulations; Law Enforcement Safety Procedures; Public relations; Standard court procedures; Average computer software and Windows program usage; Auxiliary Aids and Service System Equipment; Fire/EMS Dispatch procedures; 911 Emergency System; Proper usage of the English Language both in oral and written form; Basic mathematical principles. Skill in: Proper and effective use of office equipment; Basic computer, ,Windows and software applications; Basic typing skills; LEADS operation and security procedures; Verbal communications and the ability to effectively read and write. Ability to: Demonstrate good observation skills; React with sound judgment; Exhibit good physical condition and emotional stability; Deal with persons with tact and courtesy, as well as a necessary degree of firmness; Communicate effectively in both oral and written form; Promote good relations with the general public; Maintain accurate records and documentation; Identify problems and situations; Analyze situations, establish facts, and propose solutions; Speak and write effectively; Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers. Basic Required Qualifications: High School Degree, GED, or equivalent, LEADS Certification; Valid Ohio Driver's License; An appropriate education, coursework, or experience to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
