Job Description

The candidate will have educational responsibilities for Pulmonary/Critical Care fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and medical students. Applicants must possess a full and unrestricted license in any state and must qualify for an academic appointment at Wayne State University. Applicants must be board certified in Internal Medicine, with subspecialty certification in Pulmonary Disease. Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine boards are desirable. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Attending responsibilities for the ICU team
• Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and Fellows is required
• Serving as leader and/or active member on Medical Center committees as requested
• Inpatient and/or outpatient consultations for Pulmonary and Critical Care
• Eligibility for an academic appointment with the Wayne State University School of Medicine
• Providing expanded access to services via off normal tour or on call periods
• Proficiency in procedures including intubation, general bronchoscopy, EBUS, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, arterial line placement, central line placement, paracentesis, and lumbar puncture
• Reviews, examines, selects diagnostic testing appropriately, and interprets/collates results to coordinate patient care
• Communicates and documents with clarity to patients and medical personnel to coordinate patient care
• Timely documentation (notes and encounter forms) is necessary in all areas in accordance with facility policy. All administrative work should be completed in a timely fashion
• Shares after hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation
• Provide treatment of pulmonary diseases and disorders in an outpatient setting, provide consultation services in an inpatient setting or emergent need

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay)

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
