Nutrition Technician

Job Category: Facilities, Environmental Services, and Culinary Primary City/State: Sun City West, Arizona Department: Culinary & Nutrition-Hosp Shift: Day Shift Details: 8‑hour day shift; part‑time weekend shifts: 11:30 pm–8 pm and 3 pm–8 pm totaling 24 hours per week. Weekend shift differential $1/h and night shift differential 18% if applicable. Position Summary This position is responsible for providing patients with menu and tray/patient meal service, for receiving and forwarding patient requests and communication to dietary staff when appropriate. Works to provide patient satisfaction with dietary and food services and may provide lead responsibility for the diet office in the absence of a supervisor, including making assignments for position coverage. Core Functions Visits patients to obtain or discuss menu selections based upon diet ordered. Uses judgment to ensure selections are appropriate for the prescribed diet and records all daily patient meal selections and preferences. Provides standard diet information and requests dietary staff assistance when needed. Provides diet office processing including editing patient menus, tallying daily menu item counts from patient menus, and preparing production sheets. May lead patient tray assembly and meal service processes, ensuring food presentation meets quality standards and checking trays for menu compliance. Responsible for diet office processes. May deliver and serve meals, making independent judgments about special requests, snacks, and nourishments as assigned to patient rooms or nursing units. Under minimal supervision, interacts with patients, families, food service staff, nursing staff, and dietary staff. Follows a work routine with minimal supervision, works quickly and correctly while providing good customer service, and maintains dietary, food quality, and sanitation standards. Ensures diet office processes are completed and provides lead responsibility in the absence of a supervisor, typically during evening and/or weekend shifts. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent. Requires reading, writing and mathematical skills. Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures. Skills and knowledge in health care nutrition services typically gained through 3 years of related experience and/or education. Ability to lead assignments and reschedule staff in the absence of a supervisor. Ability to use business computer software and point of sale systems. Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required. Demonstrated effective customer service skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience as RSA or kitchen staff within a hospital setting or similar. Additional skills and knowledge in health care nutrition services preferred.
