ZTEX Construction is a heavy civil contractor specializing in earthwork, concrete, asphalt paving, underground utilities and overall project management. We are an El Paso born and raised company, and we are currently looking for a General Fleet Mechanic with mid-level experience. The role is ideal for a motivated professional who takes pride in quality, workmanship, diagnosing and solving complex mechanical issues. 

A General Fleet Mechanic performs mechanical and service work, diagnoses, repairs, and maintains cars, trucks and other small equipment for all company fleet.

Responsibilities

This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.

• Troubleshoot problems with vehicles and small machinery as necessary to make repairs as required.
• Performs tune-ups, repairs brakes, and replaces lights.
• Mount and balance tires and perform repairs.
• Repairs and maintains small engine equipment.
• Performs preventative maintenance and cleaning on all vehicles and equipment.
• Road tests vehicles and equipment.
• Responds to service calls in the field and makes on site repairs to vehicles and equipment.
• Makes daily written and oral reports.
• Performs basic shop maintenance and custodial duties as needed.
• Maintains clean, neat, and organized work areas, equipment, and tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in automotive repair.
• Ability to locate and repair defects on equipment.
• Ability to learn and apply training in automotive repair.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Skill in applying methods and techniques in the use of automotive repairs
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools to repair vehicles and equipment (must have own basic mechanic tool set).
• Ability to read repair manuals for various types of vehicles and equipment.
• Excellent mechanical repair skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills.
• Works well independently and with others.
• Good communication skills.
• Organized with attention to detail.
  

Qualifications

• All Levels Experience
• High school graduation or other equivalent (i.e., General Educational Development (GED), foreign equivalency, etc.).
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (preferred).

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Physical Requirements:

Medium/heavy - exert force of 50-100 lbs., occasionally; 25-50 lbs., frequently; or 10-20 lbs., constantly. Frequent talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, and feeling. Hearing and speech to communicate in person, via video conference and computers, or over the telephone. Mobility to work in a typical mechanic shop and use of mechanical equipment. Stamina to remain standing/stooping and maintain concentration for an extended period. Vision: Frequent near acuity, depth perception, and color vision.

Environmental Conditions:

Varies from a climate-controlled office setting to work in an open garage with temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to loud for occasional to frequent time periods.

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical screening.
