The Director of Child Nutrition is a vital member of the district leadership team and provides strategic leadership, management, and oversight for all district child nutrition operations serving approximately 3,700 students across seven campuses and a PreK program through six production kitchens. The Director ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing school nutrition programs while providing nutritious, appealing, and cost-effective meals that support student health and academic success.
The Director of Child Nutrition leads long-range planning, daily operations, financial management, personnel supervision, program compliance, and continuous improvement efforts for the district's child nutrition program. The Director collaborates with district administrators, school leaders, staff, vendors, state agencies, and community partners to ensure efficient and effective program operations aligned with district goals and priorities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Director of Child Nutrition ensures district compliance with all applicable United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Arkansas Department of Education Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Arkansas Department of Health, and local regulations governing school nutrition programs.

Salary Range/Schedule:
Terms of Employment: 240 day contract
- Associate's Degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant school nutrition program experience as required by USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Directors in districts with student enrollment between 2,500 and 9,999.
- Completion of at least eight (8) hours of food safety training within five (5) years prior to employment or within thirty (30) calendar days of employment as required by USDA Professional Standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs, including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, After School Snack Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, and related federal and state requirements.

- PROGRAM OPERATIONS
- Directs and oversees all district child nutrition operations across seven campuses and six kitchens.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates operational procedures to ensure efficient food service delivery.
- Ensures the preparation and service of nutritious, high-quality meals that meet USDA meal pattern requirements and nutrition standards.
- Oversees menu planning and recipe development to ensure compliance with federal nutrition regulations and student preferences.
- Monitors food production, meal service, sanitation, and quality control procedures.
- Coordinates special meal programs, summer feeding opportunities, and other nutrition initiatives as approved by the district.
- Oversees inventory management, receiving procedures, storage practices, and food distribution systems.
- Evaluates operational effectiveness and implements continuous improvement strategies.
- COMPLIANCE AND FOOD SAFETY
- Ensures compliance with all USDA, DESE, Arkansas Department of Health, and local regulations related to child nutrition programs.
- Oversees implementation and monitoring of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety plans.
- Ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health inspection requirements.
- Coordinates required state and federal reporting activities.
- Maintains accurate records related to meal counts, eligibility, inventory, purchasing, production records, and program documentation.
- Prepares for and facilitates administrative reviews, audits, monitoring visits, and corrective action plans when necessary.
- Ensures compliance with USDA Professional Standards requirements for child nutrition personnel.
- Oversees civil rights compliance, wellness policy implementation, and required program training.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
- Develops, administers, and monitors the Child Nutrition Fund budget
- Ensures responsible fiscal stewardship and compliance with federal and state financial requirements.
- Monitors revenues, expenditures, labor costs, food costs, and financial performance indicators.
- Analyzes financial reports and develops recommendations to improve program efficiency and sustainability.
- Oversees meal pricing recommendations and financial forecasting.
- Ensures proper accounting procedures and internal controls are implemented and maintained.
- Collaborates with district leadership regarding financial planning and resource allocation.
- PROCUREMENT AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
- Oversees procurement activities in accordance with federal, state, and district purchasing requirements.
- Develops bid specifications and evaluates vendor proposals.
- Coordinates food, equipment, supplies, and service contracts.
- Monitors vendor performance and contract compliance.
- Ensures appropriate inventory controls are implemented and maintained.
- Oversees equipment replacement planning and capital improvement recommendations for child nutrition facilities.
- HUMAN CAPITAL
- Provides leadership and supervision for all child nutrition personnel.
- Establishes clear expectations, work priorities, and performance standards aligned with district goals.
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates child nutrition staff.
- Supports employee growth through coaching, professional development, and performance feedback.
- Ensures employees complete required USDA Professional Standards training
- Maintains appropriate staffing levels and work schedules.
- Promotes a positive work environment focused on teamwork, professionalism, and customer service.
- LEADERSHIP AND STRATEGIC PLANNING
- Serves as a member of the district leadership team.
- Provides recommendations regarding child nutrition operations, facilities, equipment, staffing, and program improvement.
- Collaborates with district and building administrators to support student wellness and district initiatives.
- Develops short- and long-range goals for the district child nutrition program.
- Evaluates program effectiveness using data and stakeholder feedback.
- Maintains awareness of emerging trends, regulations, and best practices in school nutrition.
- Represents the district in professional organizations, state meetings, and community partnerships related to child nutrition.
- PROFESSIONALISM
- Models professional behavior and ethical leadership consistent with district expectations.
- Maintains confidentiality of student, staff, and district information.
- Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with students, families, staff, administrators, vendors, and community members.
- Participates in district leadership meetings, professional development, and required training.
- Maintains required certifications, licenses, and professional credentials.
- Promotes positive public relations and customer service throughout the child nutrition program.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift materials associated with food service operations.
- Occasionally required to lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Ability to travel between district campuses and facilities.
- Ability to inspect kitchens, storage areas, food preparation areas, and related facilities
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and food service technology systems.
- Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures, including kitchen and storage areas.
