Cafeteria Aide

Location: Canton High School

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Must complete food safety training
• Good attendance record
• Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Establish and maintain professional relationships

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assists in the preparation of a variety of menu items
• Washing, cutting and traying fruits and vegetables
• Serving food in portions to students to meet the mandated nutritional requirements
• Traying, restocking and arranging food items in an efficient manner to be displayed with aesthetically pleasing consideration in order to increase meal participation
• Set up and restocking supplies before, during and after meal service
• Assists in the preparation of breakfasts and/or lunches by assembling, heating, and portioning food items
• Ensuring compliance with nutrition standards by overseeing student choices and educating students on correct choices, including taking enough menu components for their tray and including a fruit or vegetable with each meal
• Assists in packaging, proper temperature handling, and storage of ready to eat meals
• Cleaning of kitchen, serving area, and equipment
• Operate Point of Sale system and/or cash register; may collect money, accurately make change and count money
• Contributes in daily reports such as production records or temp logs
• Washing dishes and/or loading dishwasher
• Maintain positive relationships with building staff and any substitutes
• Bending, lifting, and overhead work required
• Ability to stand for minimum 4 hours at a time
• Ability to work significant temperature variations
• Other tasks as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager

Reports To: Cafeteria Manager, Food Service Coordinator and Food & Nutrition Director

Rate of Pay: $16.30

Start Date: As soon as possible

Hours: 4.0 hours/day, 5 days per week

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
