Overview The City of Fort Myers (population ~106,233), known as the "City of Palms," is located along Florida’s southern Gulf Coast. It serves as the cultural, governmental, and economic hub of Lee County and offers a high‑quality, historically rich community. The City has a Council/Manager form of government, with a Mayor and six Council members. The City is a full-service city with approximately 1,139 employees and an FY2026 total budget of $894.1 million. Responsibilities The City Attorney’s office serves as the legal advisor to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, and all City departments, as well as to various boards and committees established by the Council. The City Attorney manages the activities of the City Attorney’s Office, which consists of nine staff members, and oversees the supervision of other attorneys. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited college of law Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible legal experience, including at least five (5) years in government law, civil practice, and the supervision of other attorneys Licensed member of the Florida Bar in good standing, preferably certified in City, County, Local Government Law Experience as a city/county attorney or assistant in a community of similar size, with litigation and transactional law experience, and familiarity with growth management, land use, environmental, contractual, employment, historic preservation, and utilities matters Salary & Benefits The starting salary is open and depends on qualifications.
