Automation Engineer

Salary: $135,200 - 145,600 per year Requirements:

• At least 5 years of hands-on software or automation engineering experience delivering production code, ideally in security, compliance, IT automation, or internal platform engineering.
• Strong Python and/or TypeScript skills, including REST or GraphQL integrations, webhooks, authentication flows, data pipelines, and automated testing.
• Practical experience with cloud APIs and IAM, preferably AWS, and enough infrastructure-as-code or configuration-tooling experience to query system state and assess what it demonstrates.
• Experience integrating SaaS and identity systems such as Okta, Entra, Jira, GitHub, or Google Workspace, including managing rate limits, pagination, schema changes, and failures.
• Experience with ETL or data pipelines, including extracting structured and unstructured data, normalizing it, and mapping it to downstream systems with traceability.
• Ability to work in an existing codebase, follow established patterns, understand others code, and write tests suitable for CI.
• Production experience incorporating LLM capabilities into applications, including structured outputs and evaluation sets or regression checks to measure quality.
• Strong written communication skills for documenting technical designs, data models, and evaluation results.
• Preferred: Exposure to GRC or security compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP, or HIPAA.
• Preferred: Experience with compliance automation platforms such as Vanta, Drata, or Secureframe, or tools such as OSCAL, Cloud Custodian, OPA/Rego, Prowler, or Steampipe.
• Preferred: Experience with Anthropic/Claude or comparable LLM APIs, including prompt engineering, tool use, and structured outputs.
• Preferred: Experience building internal tools or admin platforms, with an understanding of the needs of a small, fast-moving user base.
• Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD, containerization, and test automation frameworks for safely shipping changes to live internal tools.

• Design and build automated, API- and event-driven evidence collection integrations across cloud, identity, endpoint, ticketing, source control, and other systems.
• Create executable continuous control tests that check source-system state, run on schedules or change events, and return results and evidence to the platform.
• Develop the evidence data layer by normalizing source data, preserving provenance and timestamps, and handling pagination, rate limits, retries, and partial failures.
• Build and test features in the existing internal applications, from implementation through QA, working with the engineering lead and following established development and CI/CD practices.
• Improve AI-supported workflows such as questionnaire response generation, evidence-to-control mapping, and parity tracking by creating evaluation datasets, scoring rubrics, regression checks, guardrails, structured outputs, and fallbacks.
• Instrument and monitor production pipelines and workflows with logging, alerts, and dashboards to identify broken integrations, stale evidence, or output drift.
• Document integration designs, data models, control-test logic, evaluation methods, and known limitations so the team can maintain and extend the work.
