Job Title: 2nd Shift Mechanical Assembler Job Description

Join a rapidly growing defense-focused manufacturing facility in Santa Ana, CA as a 2nd Shift Mechanical Assembler. In this role, you perform high-volume, repetitive mechanical and electronic assemblies in a fast-paced production environment, supporting military and defense products. The position runs from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., offers regular overtime opportunities, and may include the option to relocate to an Ohio site at the end of the year.

• Perform repetitive mechanical assemblies to meet high-volume production goals, contributing to a team target of approximately 5,000 units per month.
• Mechanically assemble high-quality repetitive mechanical assemblies, wire harnesses, test racks, junction boxes, and associated components using hand soldering and component fabrication techniques.
• Use common hand tools and power tools, including pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, multimeters, and specialized test equipment to complete assemblies and inspections.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly instructions to ensure accurate and efficient assembly work.
• Perform validation and testing of electronic components using equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and test racks.
• Conduct inspections of mechanical and electronic assemblies to verify quality, functionality, and adherence to specifications.
• Troubleshoot electronic box assemblies, write detailed issue tickets for failures, and support root-cause analysis of assembly and test issues.
• Run functional checkouts and tests on assemblies and systems, diagnosing and resolving issues discovered during these processes.
• Support testing and operation of RF systems, PCBA assemblies, and related electronic components, including extensive troubleshooting as needed.
• Apply common airframe construction techniques, including the use of rivets, mechanical fasteners, nut plates, and similar hardware.
• Rapidly shift between roles and responsibilities to support changing production priorities in a high-paced, challenging environment.
• Communicate effectively in verbal and written form with engineering and production teams to clarify requirements, report issues, and support continuous improvement.
• Use computers for standard browser-based tasks and word processing to access work instructions, document issues, and record test results.
• Follow all safety protocols, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Work overtime and weekend shifts as needed to meet production schedules and customer commitments.

• Minimum of 2+ years of experience working in a manufacturing setting performing mechanical assemblies, preferably in aerospace, electronics, or medical industries.
• Strong proficiency with common hand tools and power tools, including pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, depth micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, pressure gauges, multimeters, and specialized test equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics, and follow detailed assembly instructions accurately.
• Working knowledge of common electrical components and basic electronic assembly practices.
• Proficiency in computer use, including standard web browsers and word processing applications, to access documentation and record information.
• Demonstrated ability to perform repetitive mechanical assembly work while maintaining consistency, accuracy, and quality in a high-volume environment.
• Capability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while working in a fast-paced, challenging production setting.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with engineering and production teams.
• Ability and willingness to work 2nd shift (2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) with the possibility of overtime and weekend work.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting on mechanical and electronic assemblies and document issues clearly.
• Must wear steel toe or composite toe shoes or boots while on the production floor.

• Experience assembling high-quality wire harnesses, test racks, junction boxes, and related components.
• Hands-on experience with hand soldering and component fabrication for mechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Experience performing validation and testing of electronic components using multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and test racks.
• Background in airframe construction techniques, including the use of rivets, mechanical fasteners, nut plates, and similar hardware.
• Experience with electronic box assembly troubleshooting and writing detailed issue tickets for failures.
• Ability to run functional checkouts and tests, diagnose issues, and support corrective actions.
• Exposure to testing and operating RF systems and PCBA assemblies, including extensive troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with production, assembly, mechanical assembly, electronic assembly, repair, and integration work.
• Experience with inspection processes for mechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Comfort working in a repetitive mechanical assembly environment focused on high throughput and consistent quality.
• Familiarity with software tools used for documentation, test recording, and communication in a manufacturing environment.

The role is based in a military and defense production setting in Santa Ana, CA, with the potential to move to an Ohio site as expansion continues. The standard schedule is 2nd shift from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with regular opportunities for overtime during the week and on Saturdays, and occasional weekend shifts as production demands. The work is high-paced and repetitive, focused on achieving high monthly unit output while maintaining strict quality standards. You use a variety of hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and computer-based systems in your daily tasks. Steel toe or composite toe shoes or boots are required as part of the safety dress code, and you operate within well-defined safety and cleanliness standards to support both employee well-being and product quality.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fountain Valley, CA.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
