Cashier

The Cashier serves as one of the primary points of contact for customers and plays a key role in creating a positive shopping experience at Ruggiero's Ace Hardware. This position is responsible for providing a friendly, efficient customer experience while accurately processing transactions, handling cash and electronic payments, and assisting customers with questions regarding products, services, and store promotions. Cashiers are expected to be helpful, approachable, and willing to assist customers. Accuracy, reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to an outstanding customer experience are essential for success in this role. Key Responsibilities Greet and assist customers in a friendly, professional, and timely manner Accurately process customer transactions using the point-of-sale system Handle cash, credit card, and other forms of payment in accordance with company procedures Maintain a clean, organized, and professional checkout area Answer customer questions and direct customers to appropriate products or departments Assist with front-end stocking, merchandising, and recovery tasks as needed Answer incoming phone calls and provide basic customer assistance Follow company policies, procedures, and safety standards Support overall store operations and provide an excellent customer experience to every customer What Success Looks Like Customers receive a friendly, helpful, and professional customer experience Accurately handles transactions with minimal errors or shortages Maintains a clean, organized, and efficient checkout area Demonstrates reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic Communicates effectively with customers and team members Works efficiently during busy periods while maintaining accuracy and professionalism Follows company procedures and completes assigned tasks without constant supervision Contributes to a positive team environment and overall customer experience Qualifications Strong customer service and communication skills Basic math and cash handling skills Ability to operate a computer, register, and point-of-sale system Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently and as part of a team Dependable attendance and punctuality Ability to work assigned schedules based on business needs Previous cashier or retail experience preferred, but not required Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time Ability to frequently and efficiently operate a register and handle merchandise Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, and reach Ability to lift and carry merchandise up to 25 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance Ability to visually read screens, labels, pricing, and product information Additional Notes Employees may be assigned responsibilities outside the immediate scope of this role to support store operations and the customer experience.
