Assistant Counselor - Per Diem

Assistant Counselor, Per Diem (Residential Via Avanta) Pay range: $22.00-$24.00 per hour with a $1.00 overnight differential. Location: On-site, on-call position at a residential facility open Monday‑Sunday. Hours vary and include Morning (7:00‑15:30), Swing (14:30‑23:30), Overnight (23:00‑07:30). Must be flexible to cover any shift as needed. Summary Support professional counseling staff in delivering comprehensive counseling and crisis intervention to women and children in a 24/7 residential facility. Engage directly with clients, facilitate therapeutic activities, address immediate needs, provide emotional support, reinforce treatment plans, and ensure residents’ well‑being. Primary Duties Assist with residential client services, respond to emergencies, maintain client safety and security. Facilitate client activity groups for adults in Via Avanta programs. Assess and monitor client daily activity schedule; prepare and submit participation reports to Program Director and counseling staff. Provide crisis intervention and facilitate conflict resolution among participants. Participate in 24‑hour coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Maintain accurate medication documentation and ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures, and regulations. Conduct phone referrals, perform intake screenings, and prepare and file client charts for the adult residential program. Assist with scheduling client transportation to appointments with community support services. Conduct routine walk‑throughs of the program facility, note problems, and prepare plant and safety status reports. Develop and maintain counseling skills through seminars, workshops, or other training related to substance‑use prevention. Attend mandatory staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned. Position Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work varied hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field; a minimum of 1 year experience preferred. AOD (Alcohol and Other Drugs) registration required; must complete within 30 days of employment. First Aid/CPR certification required; must complete within 30 days of employment. Knowledge of HIPAA policies, documentation guidelines, licensing, and state and federal regulations relating to residential psychiatric programs. Knowledge of residential mental health programming, psychiatric crisis intervention, documentation, group counseling, multicultural and socioeconomic issues. Basic advocacy skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience using Microsoft Office and clinical databases. Analytical judgment and decision‑making ability. Willingness to adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills. Current California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
