Job Summary & Responsibilities Perform phlebotomy procedures to obtain specimens for laboratory testing. Transport, process, and perform clerical duties as necessary to test patient samples. Reports to: Lead Phlebotomist, Lab Manager and Laboratory Director. Greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods. Draw blood specimens from patients by using finger sticks, heel sticks, or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required. Label specimens for identification purposes accurately and enter specimen data into the computer. Prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments. Assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls. Licensure / Certification / Registration High school diploma or GED required. Minimum 6 months phlebotomy experience required; certification through a clinical phlebotomy program may be considered in lieu of experience. Acute-care hospital experience strongly preferred.
