Job Description
Job Description:\n\nPosition Title: Enrichment & Innovation Teacher (Full-Time Specials; Flexible Subject) | Middle School | ECPA\nLocation: New Haven, CT\nReports To: School Principal\nEmployment Type: Full-time, Exempt\nStart Date: SY26-27\nSalary Range: $50,000 - $90,000 , commensurate with experience\n\n \n\nAbout Edmonds Cofield Preparatory Academy for Young Men\nEdmonds Cofield Preparatory Academy for Young Men (ECPA) is New Haven’s first dedicated middle school for young men. Our mission is to develop resourceful, resilient, and responsible young men who think critically, lead ethically, and contribute positively to their communities. ECPA provides a rigorous academic experience that fosters mastery of learning while preparing students to navigate real-world choices with confidence and integrity. Through exposure to entrepreneurial thinking, leadership development, and hands-on learning opportunities, our young men cultivate the skills and mindsets necessary to excel in high school, college, and beyond.\n\n For more information about ECPA, please visit \n\nAbout the Opportunity\nEdmonds Cofield Preparatory Academy for Young Men seeks a creative, mission‑aligned Middle School Enrichment & Innovation Teacher to help build a dynamic enrichment program for grades 5–7. As Connecticut’s first all‑boys public charter school, ECPA is still in its founding years, with a small but growing community of young men and a staff committed to building strong routines, meaningful relationships, and a school culture designed specifically for boys. As we expand grade levels and deepen our identity, you’ll help shape the traditions, systems, and learning experiences that will define the school for years to come — bringing your subject‑area expertise to an enrichment program that sparks curiosity, builds skills, and gives students meaningful avenues for self‑expression.\nThis is an exciting opportunity for an educator who believes deeply in the intellectual and creative potential of boys, is committed to equity, and is eager to design engaging learning experiences in a school community that is still writing its story.\nAs the ECPA Specials / Enrichment & Innovation Teacher, you will:\n\n \n Deliver engaging, standards‑aligned instruction in your area of expertise — whether world languages, theater/drama, technology and innovation, financial literacy and entrepreneurialism, health/life skills, or another enrichment discipline.\n \n Create a joyful, inclusive classroom culture where young men feel safe to explore, take risks, and develop confidence as learners and creators.\n \n Design foundational curriculum, routines, and structures for your discipline, helping establish an enrichment program that will grow as ECPA expands to serve grades 5–8.\n \n Collaborate with colleagues to integrate enrichment learning across disciplines and contribute to a vibrant, values‑driven school culture during these critical founding years.\n \n Partner with families and the community to showcase student growth, celebrate learning, and make enrichment a visible, celebrated part of ECPA’s identity.\n\nThis role is ideal for an educator who is reflective, resourceful, and energized by the possibilities of a founding school. Someone who loves working with young men, believes in their brilliance, and is excited to build a program that broadens how our students see themselves and their futures.\n\n \n\n~~~\n\n \n\nKey Responsibilities of the Role\nAs a Middle School Enrichment & Innovation Teacher (Full-Time Specials; Flexible Subject) at BTWA MS, you will be primarily responsible for:\nInstructional Excellence\n\n \n Design and deliver engaging, standards‑aligned lessons in your enrichment discipline that build foundational skills, creativity, and confidence.\n \n Foster exploration and risk‑taking while developing technical skills, critical thinking, and appreciation for diverse perspectives.\n \n Differentiate instruction to support varied developmental levels and learning needs, including English Learners and students with IEPs, ensuring equitable access to enrichment learning.\n \n Use portfolios, performance tasks, rubrics, and student reflections to assess growth and encourage self‑evaluation and pride in learning.\n \n Integrate culturally responsive materials and practices that affirm student identities, celebrate global traditions, and teach through an explicitly anti‑racist lens.\n \n Collaborate with classroom teachers to support interdisciplinary learning and integrate enrichment into core academic subjects.\n\nClassroom Culture & Student Experience\n\n \n Create a joyful, inclusive, and organized learning environment where students feel safe to explore, express, and take risks.\n \n Build strong relationships with students that foster trust, motivation, and a sense of belonging.\n \n Incorporate social‑emotional learning into enrichment practice, helping students develop empathy, perseverance, and confidence.\n \n Reinforce ECPA's values of character, responsibility, and excellence through collaborative projects, routines, and classroom norms.\n\nFamily & Community Engagement\n\n \n Partner proactively with families through regular communication and collaborative goal‑setting to support student growth.\n \n Organize and lead school‑wide enrichment events, showcases, or performances that celebrate student learning and build community pride.\n \n Collaborate with families to support enrichment exploration at home and strengthen the home‑school connection.\n\nCollaboration & Professional Learning\n\n \n Participate actively in weekly professional learning communities, coaching cycles, and peer observations to continuously refine practice.\n \n Collaborate with grade‑level teams and specialists to align curriculum, share best practices, and support interdisciplinary projects.\n \n Contribute to a positive, high‑performing adult culture that values feedback, reflection, and collective responsibility for student achievement.\n\nLeadership & Contribution Beyond the Classroom\n\n \n Lead enrichment opportunities such as clubs, performances, showcases, or community projects that extend learning beyond the classroom.\n \n Support and facilitate common school routines, including arrival and dismissal, lunch and recess duties, and transitions, ensuring safety, consistency, and a positive school culture.\n \n Lead a homeroom or advisory setting that fosters authentic relationships, builds community, and supports students’ social‑emotional learning and development.\n \n Help design and implement school‑wide systems, rituals, and traditions — including opportunities for student performance, exhibitions, and public demonstrations of learning — that build a strong, affirming school identity.\n \n Take initiative on school‑wide projects and lead efforts to elevate the role of enrichment in BTWA’s holistic educational model, demonstrating flexibility, innovation, and ownership in a dynamic school environment while modeling professionalism, adaptability, and a growth mindset.\n~ ~ ~\n\n \n\nQualifications of the Ideal Candidate\nWhile no one candidate will embody all the qualifications enumerated below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:\nRequired Qualifications\n\n \n Bachelor’s degree or higher\n \n Valid teaching certification in an enrichment discipline or Elementary Education with an enrichment endorsement (CT certification or eligibility for reciprocity required)\n \n At to explore creatively\n \n Strong sense of reflection and personal accountability for student growth, achievement, and experience\n \n Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal\n \n Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, youth development, social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and culturally responsive pedagogy\n \n Deep alignment with the mission and values of ECS and ECPA, including a resolute belief in the potential of every student\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n \n 3+ years of teaching experience with a proven track record of student achievement\n \n Experience in an urban, high-expectations, and/or charter school setting\n \n Familiarity with elementary visual arts curricula, interdisciplinary planning, and arts integration strategies\n \n Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learners, including ELs and students with IEPs\n \n Familiarity with project‑based learning, inquiry‑driven instruction, or blended learning models\n \n Experience organizing student exhibitions, performances, or community arts initiatives\n \n Experience leveraging the arts to support early literacy, numeracy, and other forms of developmentally relevant and appropriate interdisciplinary learning.\n\n~~~\nMindsets We Value\nOur team is passionately committed to the vision and values of Elevate Charter Schools and Edmonds Cofield Preparatory
