Diesel Mechanic Trainee Entry Level

Position Description Ryder is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee in Auburn, Massachusetts. This role offers paid on‑the‑job training to become a Ryder Diesel Mechanic Technician. The position pays $28.68 per hour and is scheduled Monday‑Friday with weekends off. Hours are 6:00 am–2:30 pm. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (preferred) Zero to one year mechanical experience working with diesel engines (preferred) Minimum age 18 Proficiency in written and verbal English Customer service skills Technical aptitude to learn equipment usage Ability to troubleshoot, work independently and in a team, represent Ryder professionally, manage time and priorities, maintain good attendance, and demonstrate accountability Basic computer skills and Microsoft Office environment familiarity Beginner knowledge of machines and tools, and shop management systems (preferred) Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A (preferred) DOT safety regulated position; safety‑sensitive role; meet state law age and work hour requirements Regulated Technician Requirements Obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire Pass a Ryder drug test Pass a DOT physical Pass a Ryder road test Pass a Ryder background and motor vehicle check covering the last 3 years of employment Responsibilities Move and service heavy‑duty vehicles into and out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or rental shop Wash and detail vehicles manually or with automated equipment; fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles according to shop safety policies; record fuel activity and maintain inventories and reconciliations using handheld devices Perform multi‑point inspections of inbound units per company policies: check tire pressure, tread, fluid levels, lights, windows, change tires, inspect refrigeration units on trucks and report service or driver issues Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards; perform minor facility maintenance as directed Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements, including hands‑on and online training; training modules cover Service Island Multi‑point Inspection, Vehicle Fueling and Washing, Environmental Safety & Spill Response, Safe Driving, 6S Standards, Preventive Maintenance, Tire and Wheel, Service Bay Tool, HD Electrical, Air and Hydraulic Brakes, and other duties as assigned Equal Opportunity Statement Ryder is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a drug‑free workplace.
