Laboratory Technician

The McConnell Group, a health science company, is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to support a research environment by preparing samples, performing diagnostic testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and records.

Position Summary: The McConnell Group, a health science company, is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to support a research environment by preparing samples, performing diagnostic testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment and records.

Required Screenings: Candidate MUST pass a government background check as well as maintain appropriate security clearances.

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Work Environment: National Bio and Agro Defense Research controlled access facility. Each employee must maintain compliance with all NBAF safety and security regulations.

Position Responsibilities

Lab Maintenance Activities

• Cleaning of workspaces and equipment
• Maintaining water baths and incubators
• Restocking active inventory items
• Maintain an accurate and up-to-date inventory of cells, viruses, reagents, and materials.
• Receive and store using proper storage conditions for cells, viruses, reagents, and materials.
• Performing weekly safety shower and eye wash station inspections
• Autoclaving trash and waste
• Assisting in the installation and evaluation of BDM equipment and facilities

Equipment and Facility Operations

• Coordinate shipping and receiving of material with BDM partners and provide weekly list of material received due on last day of every week
• Serve as an escort to visiting personnel.
• Assisting in the installation and evaluation of BDM equipment and facilities

Documentation and Communication

• Provide Quarterly Reports
• Inputting IT and service requests as needed.

Teamwork and Continuous Improvement

• Work effectively within a team environment.
• Demonstrate initiative and contribute ideas for process improvements and operational efficiencies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the research mission.

Requirements

• Master of Science or Bachelor of Science from an accredited university or college in a relevant field such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or another relevant field with 4+ years' experience is required.
• Experience with Mammalian Cell Culture, Hybridoma Cell Culture, Bacterial Cell Culture, Propagation of viruses, maintaining electronic inventory records, and processing of biological samples such as blood and tissues.
• Maintain compliance with all NBAF safety and security regulations.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Experience with the following applications DARBI, MasterControl, and Maximo is strongly preferred.
• Experience utilizing and running Bioreactors and/or fermenter systems for the production of biological products and/or experience formulating vaccines or other biologics is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds over extended periods.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull equipment throughout the workday.
• Possess the physical stamina required to work on feet for extended periods.
