Police OfficerPosition: Police OfficerExempt Status: Non-ExemptNumber Of Days: According to district approved calendarDepartment: MISD Police DepartmentReports To: Chief of PoliceSupervises: NoneEducation:High School Diploma or GEDExperience:Training or experience in law enforcement and/or security professionKnowledge and experience of electronic intrusion detection systemsPosition Function/Purpose: The security department enforces the provision of Section 21.483 of the Texas Education Code, the Texas Penal Code, and the rules and regulations promulgated by the MISD School Board for the safety and welfare of students, employees, and property.Essential Functions:Patrolling MISD property in a manner prescribed by the Chief of PoliceRemains on call as a duty officer to respond to alarms as requiredResponds to all alarms or requests for assistance as requiredPrepares and submits written reports of activities, incidents, and other security/safety violations or problemsApplies MISD security policies and procedures to situations involving acts of crime, alarm activations, and emergency situationsWorks cooperatively with other law enforcement agenciesInspects MISD property for compliance with security and safety requirements, makes recommendations to building administrators for improvementsAssists in conducting investigations and in providing written reports of incidentsWorks days, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as duties are scheduledWorks closely with students, teachers, and staff to gain support for the MISD security and safety programOther duties as assigned by the supervisorQualifications:Peace Officer Certificate in Texas (TCLEOSE)U.S. CitizenBe familiar with MISD operationsValid Texas Driver's License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD's vehicle safety and use programRequirements:Officer must live within Midland CountyMaintain a home phoneUse and maintain a personal vehicleBe able to work a flexible scheduleRemain "on call" when scheduled and requestedHave a valid Texas driver's licenseNot be on probation for any offense above the grade of Class C misdemeanorNot have been convicted of a Class A misdemeanor offense within the last 12 months or a Class B within the last 6 monthsNot convicted of a SWI or DUI within the last 24 monthsNever convicted of a felonySubjected to a thorough background investigationExamination by a licensed physician and psychologist, psychiatrist, or other registered professional and declared in good physical and mental health for appointmentNever discharged from any military service under less than honorable conditionsPhysical Demands:WalkingStandingLiftingBendingRegularly required to lift or exert force of up to 25 poundsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focusRegular attendance requiredWork Environment:The noise level in the work environment is usually moderateMust be able to maintain emotional control under stressOccasionally required to travel to facilities within the districtMay be required to work after school and weekendsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
