Assistant Store Manager

$18 - $22 per hour

The Buckle

Summary The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions primarily serve to fulfill Buckle’s mission: “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AITs perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks (cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, routine cleaning). In addition, AITs work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, and provide leadership. AITs share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $18‑$22/hr (base plus commission for sales positions). Essential Duties And Responsibilities This description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by teammates assigned to this job. The role requires performance of the following duties: Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet guests with a friendly and engaging attitude and provide legendary service. Answer questions regarding store and merchandise assertively. Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guest needs. Anticipate and fulfill guests’ needs by suggesting additional items. Demonstrate products utilizing knowledge and shared education with teammates. Maintain knowledge of sales, promotions, policies, and security practices. Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales, and net sales goals set by management. Provide service throughout the store in key areas: Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, register. Know exchange and return procedures and use them as show‑making opportunities. Complete and use the Sales Presentation Guide daily to achieve goals. Meet or exceed performance standards in guest loyalty and business builders. Expand guest selection through inventory management and digital tools. Build good guest relationships to develop client‑based business. Lead by example with showmanship, excellent service, and attentiveness. Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team. Ask business‑driven questions to managers and teammates. Accept and act on feedback to improve sales presentations. Exercise leadership actions and maintain standards even when manager absent. Plan sales goals with the Store Manager. Demonstrate ownership of store sales performance. Show passion for product education and showmanship. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Identify recruiting opportunities using jobs & careers cards, email referrals, and teammate recommendations. Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred. Develop skills and lead new teammates to meet accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards. Maintain a positive attitude and foster a positive floor culture. Demonstrate personal dress code and coach teammates on fashion. Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking. Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by management. Promote denim showmanship and fitting through teammates and guests. Create and develop results in department, balancing medium‑week check‑ins. Execute actions from departmental calendars and track via delegation worksheets. Demonstrate leadership during segments. Involve guests with product and update fellow leaders and teammates. Remember and use guest names. Explain product for both gals and guys sides effectively. Collaborate with Store Manager to set education focus and delegate weekly. Execute segments to support business goals. Assist Store Manager with recruitment of store staffing. Explain pay and benefits to new hires. Maintain updated contact list and add top talent consistently. Conduct leadership playbook training. Maintain accountability for all pieces. Train and coach non‑sales positions with manager. Execute actions with changing sales focuses. Identify and act on teammate training needs. Visual Merchandise Management Own and influence product through zone ownership and assign zones to teammates. Execute and demonstrate new tools, videos, and questions related to zone ownership. Collaborate with Store Manager to delegate, demonstrate, and review all four zones. Ensure teammates follow visual standards and weekly visual checklist with accountability. Recognize merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and communicate recommendations to the manager. Guide store tours and improve store performance via performance tracker. Anticipate product changes and act independently. Maintain visual standards on floor and backroom. Operations Work a flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on needs. Utilize planner and complete opening and closing checklists. Identify security risks, prevent or handle thefts, and follow loss prevention guidelines. Execute and teach point‑of‑sale procedures. Handle corporate calls appropriately. Maintain positive attitude in challenging situations. Execute policies on payments, returns, exchanges, and loss prevention practices. Navigate and execute store‑wide tools. Provide guidance and feedback on non‑sales roles. Complete scheduled shifts and cover when needed. Keep store clean, organized, and shoppable. Provide feedback to management regarding merchandise handling. Report policy violations and concerns to management or HR confidentially. Apply company code of ethics and policies. Perform other assigned duties. Ensure new hire paperwork and tasks are completed accurately. Plan weekly, monthly, and yearly activities. Train others on opening/closing checklists. Complete markdowns, pulls, inbound/outbound freight, recalls, RTVs. Build relationships with corporate office departments. Monitor inventory of supplies. Handle emergencies in manager’s absence per guidelines. Supervisory and Leadership Give and receive feedback from peers and management. Support leadership and promote personal and store growth. Maintain professional, mature relationships with teammates. Conduct daily interviews for team development. Overcome objections and problem‑solve. Self‑educate on company tools and share knowledge. Understand and administer commitment to success. Travel to cover other stores as needed. Handle schedule changes positively. Fulfill mission with customer service and team spirit. Execute special projects and other duties. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising store operations. Education And Experience High school diploma or GED; one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Qualifications Relocation may be required. No visa sponsorship available. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight as required. Physical Demands Regular standing, walking, hand use for manipulation, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing. Occasional sitting. Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs. Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, focus adjustments. Work Environment Retail store setting, moderate noise level.
