Responsibilities Install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul, and repair electrical, controlling, indicating, and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing equipment, and precision measuring instruments. Read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics, and testing specifications. Diagnose electric motors, install wiring to circuits, and use knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Layout, fabricate, and install tubing and tub trays. Apply mathematical principles to instrumentation, such as ratios, proportions, unit conversions, and engineering calculations. Read blueprints, schematics, loop drawings and prepare job reports. Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls, and hydraulic systems. Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures and interpret additional procedures as required. Understand principles of pH, redox, and equipment needed to measure and control them. Apply Ohm’s Law, Kirchhoff’s Law, and use electrical components such as diodes, capacitors, and other components. Understand steam behavior, including saturation properties, and apply principles of chemistry and physics such as density, mechanical advantages, and phase changes. Troubleshoot and check electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment. Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and the function of each component. Know common chemical plant process equipment such as distillation columns, heat exchangers, boilers, turbines, and compressors. Apply procedures for measuring pressure, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity, and moisture. Maintain current electrician’s license or identification card to meet state regulations. Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands Employees are regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms; stand, walk, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
