The RN-Labor & Delivery provides care to women during the labor and delivery process, as well as provides couplet care to both mothers and babies. The Registered Nurse prioritizes patient needs, coordinates patient care, and collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:Minimum:One-year acute nursing experienceCompletion of Rural Nursing Preceptorship or equivalent in Perinatal settingCompletion of one-year experience in a Nursing Assistant or Student Extern in a Perinatal settingDesired:One-year clinical experience in a Labor & Delivery UnitLICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:Minimum:Current licensure with the California Board of Registered NursingCurrent CPR recognitionACLS within 6 months of hireNRP within 1 month of hireFetal Monitoring Competence: (all tracked by dept)Completion of AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (next available class from hire date)Completion of AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of hireEvidence of continued Fetal Monitoring Competence every two years (as determined by Nurse Manager)Specific to Relief Charge Nurse:Must obtain PALS within 6 months of relief charge role (dept tracks)Desired:Bachelor of Science in NursingNRP certification upon hireACLS certification upon hireBasic Fetal Monitoring upon hireNational Certification in Inpatient Obstetrics (NCC)SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:Must demonstrate technical competence, professional clinical judgment, communication skills and sensitivity for the patient and family in crisis. Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
