Job Description Summary
The Security Officer reports to the Medical Center Security Manager. Under general supervision, the Security Officer monitors and provides protection and security for facilities, premises, employees, patients and visitors. Ability to communicate tactfully with the general public. Knowledge of methods of security in buildings and grounds institution. Performs routine and repetitive duties following clearly prescribed standards and practices as set forth by the Manager of Hospital Security. Work involves shift work and some overtime. Must be able to use tact and communicate clearly with public.

Additional Job Description

Education: High School Diploma. A Bachelor’s degree or other relevant certifications may be substituted for the required work experience.

Work Experience: One year of relevant experience (Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Behavioral Health, Counselor, Education, or Military).

Credentials : Must obtain and be able to maintain the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety certification (IAHSS) within the first year of employment. Must have a valid South Carolina Driver’s License.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction.
