Cook's Helper (Akiachak) Position: Cook’s Helper Location: Akiachak, Alaska Position Type: Full-Time Reports to: Principal and Business Manager Working days: 176 days Start Date: Immediately Job ID: 5687206 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Job Description JOB PURPOSE: In the performance of his/her duties, the Cook’s Helper is directly responsible to the Cook, Principal and Food Service Director. Duties, Responsibilities and Accountabilities Demonstrates positive attitude in working with children. Accepts direction from the Cook, Principal and Food Service Director. Assists the Cook in preparation of a school breakfast program. Assists the Cook in preparation of a school lunch program. Aids in the necessary food preparation to meet the daily servicing schedule. Serves food to the students and staff to meet the daily serving schedule. Sets up and cleans the necessary equipment which is used in the lunch service. Performs cleaning and laundry as assigned. Qualifications Past experience in cafeteria or restaurant work. Experience in school preferred. Experience in working with children preferred. High School diploma or GED. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requires decision-making ability and the ability to work independently. Requires ability to plan, schedule, and prioritize work. Requires ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties as situations require, a strong sense of teamwork, and ability to work cooperatively with others. Requires ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education practices, Alaska State Laws, and Department of Education and Early Development regulations. Education and Experience Education: High School diploma or GED. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as software operating and training instructions, and technical procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before supervisors and district employees. Ability to speak Yupik preferred. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills and Abilities Requires knowledge and ability to operate a variety of software on computers. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and scanning. Physical Demands Employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, operate a computer, and reach with hands and arms. Requires non-stop typing on the computer. Employee must meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. May work extended or irregular hours. Some travel required.
