$65k

Virginia Commonwealth University

Unit: Office of Provost Department: Division of Community Engagement The Division of Community Engagement at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and highly organized Data and Training Coordinator to support and advance the university's efforts to document, analyze, and communicate the breadth and impact of community engagement across VCU. This position is ideal for an individual with experience working in a higher education environment, particularly with faculty, and an understanding of the systems, processes, and collaboration required to implement institution-wide initiatives. The successful candidate will possess strong communication, project coordination, and technical skills, with the ability to leverage data to inform decision-making, highlight institutional engagement, and develop meaningful reports, dashboards, and data visualizations. An appreciation for community engagement and the value of partnerships across teaching, research, service, clinical practice, creative activities, and institutional collaboration is essential. The coordinator's primary responsibility will be to support the implementation and university-wide adoption of Collaboratory, VCU's web-based platform for documenting community engagement and partnerships. The coordinator will work collaboratively with faculty and staff to facilitate training, provide technical and user support, promote consistent data collection and reporting, and contribute to the successful implementation of this institutional initiative. In addition, the coordinator will support broader Division initiatives through project coordination, communications, training, data reporting, and operational support. Key Responsibilities: Serves as the lead coordinator for VCU’s implementation and use of Collaboratory, the Division’s primary platform for documenting community-university partnerships. Builds relationships with faculty, staff, and research personnel to support their understanding of partnership documentation and facilitate their use of Collaboratory for capturing their community-engaged activities. Provides support and guidance to faculty and staff for entering their own partnership information into Collaboratory, including through one-on-one assistance, group support sessions, and training materials. Organizes and oversees data entry efforts by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and research teams to ensure that partnership documentation is consistent, complete, and reflects the breadth of university engagement. Designs and delivers training, workshops, and individualized support sessions to build campus-wide capacity for using Collaboratory and understanding its purpose. Uses qualitative and quantitative data—paired with strong visualization to translate engagement activity into visible, accessible records and compelling narratives that reflect both individual contributions and broader unit- and university-level impact. Develops data visualizations, dashboards, reports, and other communication materials that effectively demonstrate the breadth, depth, and impact of VCU's community engagement. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills, with comfort leading trainings and interacting across academic disciplines and roles. Proven ability to manage complex projects independently and collaboratively. Strategic thinking and the ability to connect faculty/staff community engagement partnership efforts to institutional priorities and community impact. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; MPH or a degree in Public Administration, Education, Social Work, Data Science/Analytics or a related field is preferred. Demonstrated experience in community-engaged work, higher education engagement, or partnership coordination. Demonstrated experience with data visualization and the tools used to produce it (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker Studio, R, Python, or comparable), including building dashboards and visual reports for non-technical audiences. Demonstrated understanding that collecting, analyzing, and visually sharing information about community partnerships is important for showing impact and telling the story of that work to community members. Ideal Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be a connector and data storyteller—someone who understands that documenting partnerships is not just about systems but about supporting people in telling their stories and making their work visible. This individual should be comfortable navigating academic environments, curious about different forms of engagement, passionate about building a culture of reflection and recognition around community partnerships, as well as managing the data entry and management details necessary to maintain a living, growing database. While the coordination of Collaboratory will be a major and ongoing responsibility, this role is fundamentally about strengthening the systems and relationships that allow VCU faculty and staff to more fully document and assess community partnerships. Salary Range: Up to $65,000 commensurate with experience Benefits: All full-time university staff are eligible for VCU’s robust benefits package that includes comprehensive health benefits, paid annual and holiday leave, generous tuition benefits, retirement planning and savings options, tax-deferred annuity and cash match programs, employee discounts, well-being resources, abundant opportunities for career development and advancement, and more.
