Job Description – FY27: Security Assistant, Clarksburg High School, 8 hours per week for a period of 10 months. Ad Closes 7/15/26 (Req ID: 2600482) Job Specific Information Required to work flexible hours and weekends, as assigned by the principal to provide maximum security coverage. Required to occasionally work overtime. Only candidates who completed the screening interview for this position with the Department of School Safety & Security will be considered. Preference to bilingual English/Spanish candidates with working knowledge of safety procedures/practices; knowledge of behavior management techniques; investigative procedures; and excellent written/oral communication skills. Wage range: $24.45 to $34.82 per hour, based on years of service. For benefits, see the link: Summary Description Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, the assistant screens visitor access to school facilities, maintains student class attendance, and performs other responsibilities related to school security operations. The assistant receives guidance and assistance from the security team leader on the more difficult or unusual situations. Physical Demands Requires sufficient physical strength to intervene in fights and physically restrain persons; stamina to spend long periods walking and standing during security patrol duties. Ability to patrol outdoors in inclement and extreme weather conditions. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of procedures and practices for ensuring the safety and welfare of others. Knowledge of behavior management techniques. Knowledge of security practices and procedures. Investigative procedures knowledge desirable. Ability to acquire specific knowledge of MCPS policies and procedures such as student attendance, suspension, student involvement, and standards of behavior. Effective communication with students and staff; understanding of each staff member’s role in attendance, behavior, and building security. Ability to work harmoniously with staff and students; perform assigned tasks under supervision. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Knowledge of and ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Education, Training, and Experience High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred. College coursework in criminology, law enforcement, or related fields is desirable. Experience with welfare and safety of students or others in an educational environment is preferred. Investigation experience desirable. Experience in safety and security of persons and property, preferably as a police officer, is also desirable. Licenses & Certifications Valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license (or equivalent). First aid and CPR certification.
