Career Development Specialist (Case Manager)

Our Desired Outcomes We aim to attract individuals who support economic growth and vitality in Southwest Michigan. The Career Development Specialist will assess and evaluate One‑Stop customers, identify skill upgrade or re‑training opportunities, enroll qualified candidates into training, and facilitate placement in high‑demand sectors to increase wage earnings. What We Expect From You The Career Development Specialist plays a crucial role within Michigan Works! Team, working with diverse populations seeking employment—including low‑income individuals, youth, college students, adults switching careers, single parents, offenders, long‑term unemployed, and the ALICE population. The specialist ensures a positive customer experience and aligns resources to address barriers to employment, aiming to dual enroll candidates in multiple programs that promote self‑sufficiency. Key responsibilities include: Develop a working knowledge of workforce program competencies such as WIOA, FAE&T, PATH, RESEA, TAA, Wagner‑Peyser, and other awarded programs. Provide career coaching, including resume assistance, mock interviews, supportive services, and training opportunities aligned with job seeker needs and regional job growth. Resolve barriers with disadvantaged participants and connect them to training, employment, and scholarship opportunities. Perform timely data entry, maintain accurate participant files, and conduct monthly audits. Maintain knowledge of Michigan Works! services, high‑demand sectors, and local employment opportunities. Conduct ongoing outreach and recruitment to seek potential customers for established programs. Utilize tools to assess skills, assist with career planning, and monitor the career development process. Collaborate with the Workshop Facilitator to develop career coaching workshops in person and virtually. Interact daily with internal and external partners to achieve performance metrics and support organizational goals. Perform a range of service duties, including: Veterans Affairs Hiring and Special Event Planning Job Seeker Outreach High School Completion and Adult Education Provider Outreach Community Resources and Partner Engagement Workforce Intelligence and Salesforce Compliance and File Retention Show strong collaboration skills and ability to work across multiple teams within Kinexus Group to streamline services and maximize resources. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in business, human services, workforce development, or a related field. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Passionate about serving others and the community. Ability to work in a team environment. Organize, prioritize, and maintain confidentiality. Solid computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Google Hangouts, Zoom). Adaptability to change in a fast‑paced environment. Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Preferred Experience Two years of professional experience in business, social services, workforce development, or a related field. Prior case management experience. Spanish bilingual ability. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times. Must be willing and able to travel approximately 30% of the time between Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties. Work Environment Flexible and open. Periodic telecommute work.
