What you will do:

The Dietary Assistant Director assists the Dietary Director with the management and daily operations of the Dietary Department, including staffing, food ordering, food preparation, meal delivery, and clean-up. This position helps ensure that residents receive nutritious, well-prepared, and palatable meals in a timely manner while following physician orders, resident care plans, facility policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. The Dietary Assistant Director must demonstrate professionalism, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to providing excellent service to our residents.

• Assist the Dietary Director with the daily management and operations of the Dietary Department.

• Assist with hiring, training, developing, coaching, and counseling department staff as needed.

• Make staff assignments, establish priorities, and assist with coordinating departmental schedules.

• Purchase food and supplies within established budgetary guidelines and maintain adequate inventory for meal service.

• Assist with menu planning and ensure menus meet nutritional standards and applicable regulations.

• Provide guidance regarding the planning, preparation, and service of regular and therapeutic diets.

• Ensure residents receive meals and snacks that are appropriate for their physician-ordered diets and special dietary needs.

• Monitor food production to ensure compliance with approved menus, standardized recipes, proper food preparation, and food storage practices.

• Maintain high standards for the quality, safety, and timeliness of food service.

• Monitor food preparation and storage areas to ensure health, sanitation, and food safety requirements are followed.

• Visit residents periodically to evaluate meal quality and obtain feedback regarding food preferences, likes, and dislikes.

• Review resident diet information and care plans and communicate with residents, families, nursing staff, and the Dietary Consultant as necessary.

• Assist with completion of dietary documentation, including MDS information, Resident Care Plans, Progress Notes, Dietary Assessments, Nutritional Data Cards, Diet Cards, and other required documentation.

• Ensure dietary records and documentation are accurate, timely, and maintained in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.

• Participate in department meetings and interdisciplinary care plan meetings.

• Assist with orientation and training of new dietary employees.

• Recognize and encourage staff for exceptional performance and contributions.

• Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable state and federal regulations related to sanitation and safe food handling.

• Monitor equipment and work areas to ensure they are clean, safe, and orderly.

• Ensure proper procedures are followed when handling cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and equipment.

• Promote and maintain appropriate infection control, fire safety, workplace safety, and sanitation practices.

• Assist with developing and implementing plans of correction following regulatory or quality assurance surveys, as needed.

• Maintain adequate food and supply inventories to support disaster preparedness requirements.

• Assist with developing procedures to ensure dietary equipment is operated safely by trained and authorized personnel.

• Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the resident experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.

• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

What you need:

• High school diploma or GED required; equivalent related work experience may be considered.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in a dietary or food service department required.

• One (1) to two (2) years of management or supervisory experience preferred.

• Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, employees, vendors, and other members of the healthcare team.

• Customer-service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make sound decisions within the scope of assigned responsibilities.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and new tasks.

• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including standing and/or walking for extended periods, bending and stooping, and lifting, pushing, pulling, moving, and/or carrying up to 50 pounds.
