GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for operating all heavy equipment used by the Roads and Bridges Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with the work schedule for the Roads & Bridges Department in absence of the Foreman. (Responsible for assigning daily duties to the staff based on priority of work orders agreed upon with Foreman and/or Community Services Manager.)

• Must be proficient in the operation of all machinery and equipment in the Roads & Bridges Department (grader, backhoe, dump trucks, etc.)

• Responsible for ensuring employees wear all required safety equipment while on the job site (safety vests, hard hats, gloves, etc.).

• Help coordinate snow and ice removal (make sure staff is following priority street list and snow and ice is being removed in a timely manner).

• Help coordinate the chip and seal maintenance program (quality control, all streets on list are completed).

• Have a working knowledge of all duties and responsibilities of the Roads & Bridges Department (rules, regulations, what we do and what we don’t do as a department).

• Assist the Foreman in the day-to-day activities (street evaluations, talking to homeowners, overseeing contractors, etc.).

• Supervise and delegate authority to the Roads & Bridges work force in absence of the Foreman.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED

• 3-5 years’ experience in road construction, street maintenance and grounds keeping preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

• Valid CDL TN Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Walking and standing for extended periods of time.

• Must be able to lift 40 pounds at a time (more with assistance)
