Our client is an international analytical testing laboratory focused on global food health and safety. They're looking for a Chemist I to join their extraction team and help deliver accurate, timely results to the food and agriculture companies they serve.

This is a hands on bench role centered on sample extraction and prep. You'll run established methods, keep the process stable, and have room to suggest improvements, support R&D work, and build toward instrumentation experience.

What You'll Do

Sample extraction and prep

• Perform routine extractions, chemical isolation, and sample cleanup per SOPs using blending, shaking, Soxhlet extraction, digestion, SPE, distillation and condensation, liquid/liquid partitioning, and chemical derivatization
• Prepare and document reagents and analytical working standards
• Operate lab equipment including blenders, nitrogen and rotary evaporators, shakers, pH meters, and centrifuges
• Complete extraction QC checks and required documentation
• Enter observational results into LIMS, such as Brix dilutions, moisture, and pH

Troubleshooting and equipment

• Troubleshoot extraction issues, complex sample matrices, and lab contamination, working with supervisors on fixes
• Calibrate, maintain, and verify general lab equipment such as pH meters, balances, centrifuges, vacuum pumps, water baths, freezers, and pipettes
• Flag equipment problems and any deviations from established procedures

Team and process support

• Help senior chemists prepare reference calibration standards and support R&D bench work
• Help revise and develop SOPs and controlled documents
• Propose and implement improvements that raise extraction quality, cut cost, or shorten turnaround
• Pitch in on sample prep, glassware cleaning, and training on specific tasks as experience grows

Safety

• Work safely with chemicals and equipment, use proper PPE, and keep a clean, organized workspace
• Report accidents or unsafe conditions to the safety committee or management

What You Bring

Required

• B.S. in Chemistry or a related science, or an equivalent mix of education and experience
• Some lab experience or training, including sample prep, extraction, and general bench chemistry
• Hands on experience using and maintaining lab support equipment (pH meters, centrifuges, balances, pipettes, and similar)
• Ability to follow and help write SOPs, methods, and lab documentation
• Solid math and data skills, including basic statistics
• Strong problem solving, organization, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
• Clear communication and comfort working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds
• Proficiency with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat

Nice to have

• Analytical experience with LC, GC, or inorganic instrumentation
• Experience in an international company

Training and Work Environment

• On the job training covers company systems, equipment operation and maintenance, and an Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) for existing SOPs
• Lab setting with general extraction and analytical equipment; possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and solvents
• Role involves repetitive hand and wrist movement and following spoken instructions; reasonable accommodations available
