Food Clerk-Cashier Primary Responsibilities Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using an electronic cash register, scanner, and scale Clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales Prevent loss of money and merchandise by careful product handling, correct pricing, proper identification of produce, accurate counting of money, and correct use of store procedures for the acceptance of coupons, WIC, and other vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards Ensure safety of self, customers, and co‑workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules and notifying a supervisor of any potential hazard immediately Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly Understand the operation, safety requirements, and restraints of an electronic cash register, scanner, scale, and intercom system Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, substitute for absent workers, and perform any additional tasks necessary to provide products and services to customers Supervision Received Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front‑End Manager or Store Manager. Qualifications Above and Beyond Customer Service Basic Mathematics (Add, subtract, multiply, divide) High School Diploma or Equivalent Prior Experience in related field or industry Specific Tasks Standing capability, 4 hours minimum Move a maximum of 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches Move a maximum of 40 lbs. up to 15 feet Pick up items from floor/case/shelf/cart Retrieve merchandise on the top of grocery shelves, approximately 84 inches from the floor Bend and twist at the waist while cleaning, moving/removing merchandise and loading/unloading merchandise Work Environment Note: Inside work with transitions of heat/cold/humidity/dust from opening of store entrance/exit doors.
