Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Overview Job title: Registered Nurse — Medical-Surgical (RN, MS) at IL-SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital, Mount Vernon. The role provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care using standards of medical-surgical practice to improve quality of care and quality of life for patients and families. Establish effective relationships and advocate for patients to facilitate individualized care plans. Use the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data, determine diagnoses, identify outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes. Develop assessment and management strategies considering physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure factors. Coordinate with patients, families, and inter-professional team to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes. Communicate with patients and care teams to support culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, and humane care within available resources. Educate patients and families on measures to promote health, maintain wellness, or restore comfort. Foster a healthy work environment and mentor nursing colleagues and students. Apply evidence-based practice and age-specific clinical knowledge in medical-surgical nursing. Perform point-of-care testing as applicable and contribute to other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program or education equivalency for licensing. Experience: No experience required. Licenses/Certifications: State RN license and Basic Life Support (BLS HCP) from American Heart Association; licenses may be held in multiple states (IL, MO, OK, WI) or compact states as applicable. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, lifting/carrying (0–25 lbs) and pushing/pulling; occasional lifting (25–50 lbs) and moving patients. Frequent sitting, reaching, keyboard use; occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting; repetitive movements. Frequent vision, color identification; frequent sense of smell and hearing for patient care and alarms. Occasional driving; rare crawling or running.
