Job Summary:

This DSP position will be for the following schedule: Sunday-Thursday 4pm-12am. Driving DSPs are responsible for supporting the mission of Circle Haven by providing individual support to adults with disabilities living in their own or their family’s home, increasing independence, encouraging choice, and promoting respect in daily life. In addition, Driving DSPs are responsible for safely transporting participants to community programs, appointments, and other activities.

Driving-Specific Requirements:

• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must provide proof of current automobile insurance.
• Circle Haven will review and maintain a copy of your driver’s abstract.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
• Performs personal care tasks, including assistance with basic hygiene, grooming, feeding, ambulation, medical monitoring, and health care related tasks.
• Fosters positive relationships between participants and caretakers.
• Ensures client safety and maintains a safe environment.
• Reminds and assists participants with self-administration of medications (with proper training).
• Encourages self-help activities.
• Reports changes in a participant’s condition or family situation to administrators and supervisors.
• Documents services provided, including case notes, daily activities, medication logs, and behavioral assessments.
• Maximizes independence in life skills including nutrition, cooking, finance, and social skills.
• Safely transports and supports participants in community programs and outings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Direct Support Professional Qualifications and Characteristics

• Patience and composure in challenging and stressful situations
• Good communication skills with individual participant, family/guardians, medical professionals and other direct support professionals
• Dependable in attendance and timeliness 
• Ability to handle physical aspects of job, including bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for periods of time

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 18 years of age or older

I agree to drive participants safely and responsibly as part of my job duties.
