Work Environment

This role is entirely remote, allowing you to provide crucial mental health services from the comfort of your own space. Despite the physical distance from our main office, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team that values open communication and shared insights. You will utilize telehealth technologies to conduct therapy sessions, ensuring that distance does not hinder the quality of care provided to clients.

  • Facilitate engaging and effective individual and group therapy sessions, employing various therapeutic modalities to promote healing and resilience.
  • Regularly monitor and assess client progress throughout the duration of treatment, making timely adjustments to intervention strategies as necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and social workers, to create cohesive and comprehensive intervention plans.
  • Follow up with psychiatrists and attending physicians for clients who may require hospitalization, ensuring seamless care coordination.
  • Identify potential behaviors that may hinder recovery, providing preventative strategies and empowering clients to overcome these challenges.
  • Support family members and primary caregivers by offering guidance and resources to help them manage the complexities of their loved ones' mental health conditions.

Patient Population / Client Focus

Our client base is diverse, consisting of individuals from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. As a mental health counselor at Living Free, you will work with clients facing a wide array of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use disorders. You will play a crucial role in fostering resilience within these populations, utilizing culturally responsive practices and treatment approaches.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current and valid licensure as LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW in the state of California.
  • Documentation of passing scores on the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and/or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE).
  • Demonstrated experience as a mental health counselor, showcasing your ability to manage a caseload effectively.
  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record systems, with preference for candidates familiar with systems like AVATAR.
  • A strong understanding of the interplay between physical health, emotional well-being, and addiction disorders.
  • Familiarization with the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) best practices and ethical standards.
  • In-depth knowledge regarding the impact of prescribed medications on mental health and overall treatment outcomes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, allowing for effective documentation and client engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a genuine empathetic nature, essential for building trust and rapport with clients.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience working within a community health clinic or similar environment.
  • Experience in telehealth settings, demonstrating comfort with conducting therapy sessions via digital platforms.
  • Specialization or additional training in trauma-informed care or crisis intervention.
