The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts the necessary equipment and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focused on the research development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

What You Will Do

The Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer I will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC including:

• Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and IQ/OQ/MQ tools and best practices to increase the rate of additive adoption

• Explore the capabilities of advanced measurement tools for characterizing machine inputs and melt pool / material responses with the goal of quantifying and reducing variability

• Support root cause investigations on build failures machine or process issues or product performance gaps and implement corrective actions

• Curate pedigreed Process-Structure-Property data into various materials databases

• Lead responsive proposals for Internal Research and Development (IRAD) programs in support of our Business Unit customers and execute on awarded programs

• Support the execution of Contract Research and Development (CRAD) programs involving government industry academic and RTX Business Unit partners

• Execute and oversee development builds on a wide variety of Additive Manufacturing machines

• Work with cross-functional teams including materials design simulation operations and characterization engineers to support and improve the full value stream

Qualifications You Must Have

The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:

• Typically requires a University degree in Mechanical Chemical Materials Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field. A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.

• Min 1 year scripting experience with Matlab Python VBA JavaScript or similar

• Min 1 year experience with CAD tools

• Min 1 year hands-on experience operating manufacturing equipment OR designing mechatronic systems

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience with metal laser powder bed fusion Additive Manufacturing tools and processes

• Experience utilizing advanced AM build processors to design custom LPBF tool paths

• Experience utilizing statistical analysis software packages (Minitab Stat-Ease360 or similar)

The salary range for this role is 57200 USD - 108800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer including but not limited to the role function and associated responsibilities a candidates work experience location education/training and key skills.
